Momentum Of

one body
Stephanie .W.
A momentum actually has both magnitude and direction, it’s a
vector quantity. Also, the direction of a momentum is the same
as the direction of the velocity.
Basically, a momentum is the property of a tendency of a moving

object.
 Thus, a linear momentum is an object moving in a line, where the
momentum is mass of the object multiplied by its velocity, p= m x v
 Another one is angular momentum, where single body could have two
types of angular momentum. The magnitude is equal to the
momentum of the particle.
 The last one is conceptual momentum, but it’s fairly related to the
scientific meaning of momentum.

 Inertia, however is very different from momentum, it’s a tendency of

object to remain at a resting position. But, sometimes confused as one.
 Ifa 100 kg football
player runs off with
a velocity of 9 m/s,
then how do we get
the momentum??

Linear
Momentum
 It’s where the Earth for
example, continues to spin
at the same rate it has for
billions years.

 Here, we know that a

closed system is occurred,
some things remain Angular
unchanged, and something
can be transfer back and Momentum
forth without changing the
total amount
( Conservation Law ).
 This usually happens in
our daily life and it’s just
an activity. Such as,
where a minister gained
momentum only after a
series of events. By
attending those, a
minister created a mass
Conceptual
and gained velocity from Momentum
doing it in a short period
of time.
Additional Discussion
 Newton’s second
law was stated in
terms of momentum.

Momentum and
Newton’s Second
Law
 A football player hits
a record of reaching a
speed of 60 m/s.

 What is the average

force exerted on the 2
kg ball taken by him,
known that the initial
component of the
velocity before
impact is negligible,
and the ball remained
in contact with him
for 2 miliseconds??
