Types of assessment

1:Formal assessments: Formal assessment is that


assessment in which the teacher grade the student or
certify the student pass or fail and to promote in the class
room. It is in written form. All data regarding learning
achievement or academic achievement involved in it.

2:Informal assessment: In this assessment the teacher


observe the student’s learning difficulties among the
students and take effective steps to remove that learning
difficulties and enhance the learning among the students.
It is not in written form but just observation.
3:Objective assessment: In this the teacher assess the
student by taking objective type questions such as multiple
choice questions, matching column, fill in the blanks etc.

4:Subjective assessment: It is that assessment in which


the teacher assess explanation ability of the student by
taking subjective type questions such as long answer type
question, essay type question.

5:Diagnostic assessment: It is a form of pre-assessment


that allows the teacher to determine the student individual
strength,weakness,knowledge and skill prior to instruction.
It is primarily used to diagnose student difficulties and
guide lesson and curriculum planning.
6:Internal assessment: The internal teacher assess the student
progress. Teacher collects valuable information about the
student in the classroom.

7:External assessment: In this assessment the outside teacher


come and assess the student progress as well as the teacher
professional qualification. He also check the quality of
education .

• 8:Synoptic assessment: It is a form of assessment which
test the candidate’s understanding of connection between
different element of a subject. It develops the enter
relationship among the subjects.

• 9:Norm-refenced assessment: It refers to standardized


test that are designed to compare and rank test taken in
relation to one another.

• 10:Criterion assessment: It is used to measure the
students performance against a fixed set a pre
determined criteria or learning standard.

• 11:Ispative assessment: It is the practice of determining a


student’s progress based on their earlier work. It is
actually self comparison.

• 12:Formative assessment: It is a continuous process
carried out by the teacher to monitor student progress in a
non threatening and supportive environment. It is a range
of formal and informal assessment.

• 13:Summative assessment: It refers to assessment of the


learning that sum or summarize the development of a
student of a particular time. Summative assessment is
taken at the end of the course or academic year.

• 14:Terminal assessment: In this assessment a test is
taken at the end of the course or major unit or chapter
wise such as to determine whether student could progress
to the next stage of the course.

• 15:Continuous assessment: The assessment that is


carried out on-going basis. It may be periodic test. It is a
mixture of formative and summative assessment.
