This document provides an overview of meters in twos, or duple meter. It defines meter as the rhythmic structure that creates patterns of accented and unaccented beats. Duple meter has two beats per measure, with the first beat accented and the second unaccented. The time signature for duple meter is notated with a top number of 2, indicating two beats per measure, and a bottom number that indicates the note value of each beat, usually a quarter note. Conducting gestures for duple meter involve moving the right arm in a pattern that emphasizes beat 1 of each 2-beat measure.

MAPEH TEACHER OBJECTIVES: DEMONSTRATE THE MEANING OF RHYTHMIC PATTERNS BY CLAPPING IN 2/4 TIME SIGNATURE; PERFORM OSTINATO USING HALF NOTE AND HALF REST IN TWO-TIME METER; CREATE RHYTHMIC PATTERN USING NOTES AND REST IN TWO-FOUR TIME SIGNATURE;AND IDENTIFY ACCENTED AND UNACCENTED PULSES. METER – Is the Rhythmic structure, the patterns of accents heard in regularly recurring measures of stressed and unstressed beats.
A meter is labeled as duple, triple, quadruple, and compound.
Those with two beast are called duple meter; Those with three beats are called triple meter; Those with four beats are called quadruple meter;and Those with more than four beats are called compound meter. The time signature also indicates the strong and weak beats which make it easier to distinguish one from the other. The sounds are strong and soft. This combination of sounds is called meters in two or duple meter (beats grouped into two with the accented beat in number 1 and the unaccented beat in number 2). The top number indicates how many beats are in a measure. The bottom number indicates the beat value.
There are two
beats in a measure
Quarter note is the
length of the beat. There are several basic conducting gestures. These gestures (hand and arm movements)convey the time signature and meter of a particular piece.
1.In conducting a duple meter 2/4 time signature,move your
right hand and arm following the directions as illustrated in figure 1.Put in an extra lilt for the strong beat. END OF THE SLIDES…. THANK YOU and GOD BLESS!!
