When do we use the past continuous tense?

We use it to talk about a past action which was happening over a


period of time.
• We were watching TV yesterday evening.
• I was doing my homework at this time yesterday.
Past Simple & Past Continuous
The past simple and past continuous are used together when something
happened in the middle of something else.
• We were eating dinner when the telephone rang.
