Medullary cavity:

Red & yellow bone marrow.

At birth the marrow is red everywhere with widespread active haemopoiesis.

Red bone marrow persistent in sternum, iliac crest, skull bones,vertebrae.

◦ Rich vascularity zone end arteries forming hair pin bends.

◦ This is the common site of osteomyelitis in children .

◦ Epiphyseal plate Cartilage:

Proliferation of cells in cartilaginous palte is responsible for lengthwise growth of along bone.

After epiphysis fusion, the bone can no longer grow in length.
