There are actually 24 hours in a
day.

Since there are only 12 hours on a

clock, we use AM and PM to
know exactly what time it is.
 What Do AM and PM Stand For?

• Ante merīdiem (a.m) means

• “before midday.”(noon)

• post merīdiem (p.m) means

• “after midday.”(noon)
AM starts at 12:00 midnight (after
you go to bed).
12 o’clock 12 o’clock
midnight lunch time

AM includes all the hours from 12:00

midnight all the way up to 11:59 in the
morning (around lunch time).
 12 o’clock 12 o’clock
midnight lunch time

In the AM hours, you would wake

up, eat breakfast, and go to school.
PM starts at 12:00 around lunch time
and goes until midnight.
 12 o’clock 12 o’clock
midday Midnight
lunch time sleeping

PM includes all the hours from lunch

time all the way up to 11:59 in the
middle of the night (after you go to bed).
 12 o’clock 12 o’clock
lunch time midnight

In the PM hours, you might eat lunch, go

home from school, eat dinner, and go to
bed.
