TELLING TIME (NUMBERS)
Hay dos formas habituales de saber la hora. Por lo general, decimos primero los
minutos y luego las horas. Sin embargo, también decimos las horas primero y
luego los minutos (la manera menos formal).

EXAMPLE:

It is ten past five. (minutes + PAST / TO + hours)

It is five ten. (hours + minutes) (less formal)

¿Cómo preguntamos la hora?

 What time is it?


 What is the time?
 Do you have the time?
 Do you know what time is it?
 Can you tell me what time is it, please?
 Could you tell me the time, please?

 Si se trata de una hora en punto "o'clock", no se hace uso del a.m. o p.m., en
cambio, se puede utilizar cualquiera de éstos términos según la hora del día:

In the morning: de la mañana


It's six in the morning - Son las seis de
la mañana.

In the afternoon: en la tarde (12:00pm-


6:00pm)
Let's meet at six in the afternoon -
Encontrémonos a las seis de la tarde.

In the evening: en la tarde-noche


(6:00pm-8:00pm)
Our date is at 8 in the evening - Nuestra
cita es a las 8 de la noche.

 Para diferenciar las horas, se utiliza el formato de a.m. y p.m.

6:50 p.m.: Ten to seven p.m.


8:30 a.m.: Eight thirty a.m.
5:15 p.m.: A quarter after five p.m.

 We use AT + TIME when giving the time of a specific event.

The class starts AT nine o´clock.


The flight leaves AT ten to three.

 We use IT IS or IT´S to answer a question that asks for the time right now.

What time is it? - IT IS half past four.


What´s the time - IT´S twenty to five
