GULAYAN SA PAARALAN PROGRAM IMPLEMENTERS
I-Objective: Pursuant to DepEd Memorandum No. 223, s.2016, "Strengthening the

Implementation of the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program in Public Elementary and Secondary
Schools Nationwide" and DepEd Memorandum No. 114, s.2022, "Transfer of Management
and Supervision of Gulayan Sa Paaralam Program", Catalino Castaneda Elementary School
is accepting the challenge and willing to participate in the District Search for 2022
Outstanding Gulayan sa Paaralan Program Implementers. The general objective of the GPP
is to promote food security in schools and communities, through self-help food production
activities and values among the learners, and appreciation of agriculture as a life support
system, as stated in the DepEd Memorandum No. 223, s.2016, Specifically, it aims to:
a. promote vegetable production in public elementary and secondary schools;
b. establish and maintain school gardens as ready food basket/ source of vegetables
in sustaining feeding;
c. serve as laboratory for learners;
d. produce in the schools vegetables which have rich sources of protein, vitamins
and minerals, and eventually increase vegetable consumption, and improve
learners' nutrition;
e. showcase small-scale food production models; and
f. inculcate among the learners the values of gardening, good health and nutrition,
love of labor, and caring for others.
II-PREPARATION OF SCHOOL GARDEN
The faculty members of Catalino Castaneda Elementary School, led by our
schoolhead, Sir Raul J. Ramos, worked collaboratively with the Gulayan sa Paaralan School
Coordinator, Sir Jerico A. Abrenica, and with the active support and involvement of the PTA
and stakeholders, to prepare everything needed for the District Search for Outstanding
Gulayan sa Paaralan Program Implementers. The documents/folders for the said search are
ready for on-site evaluation in accordance with DepEd Memorandum No. 223, s. 2016.
A. Food Gardening (35%)

Utilization of different strategies/technologies:

- Bio-Intensive Gardening
- Organic Fertilizer
- Organic Pest Management
- Segregation/Recycling
- Composting
- Use of edible landscape
- Small-scale food production models
Records/data on the following:
- volume of production per type/variety (kg)
- volume of production for feeding and other purposes (kg)
- Total area utilized/devoted for fruit and vegetable gardening vis-à-vis total available
school land area ( more or less 500 square meters)
B. Supplementary Feeding (30%)
Availability of the following:
- School feeding plan/SBFP Menu Plan
- Crop Plan/Gantt Chart of target vegetables for production intended for feeding
- Planting Calendar
- At least 10 varieties:
a. sources of protein (legumes such as beans, mongo, peas, etc.)
b. sources of calorie/energy (root crops such as gabi, camote, cassava, etc.)
c. sources of Vitamin A and iron (leafy green vegetables such as malunggay,
saluyot, alugbati, kangkong, sili, kulitis, pechay, etc.)
d. indigenous fruits and vegetables
- Records/data on the target SBFP beneficiaries and progress monitoring report
C. Nutrition Education (20%)
Conduct of the following:
- Integration of nutritional dimension of food production and related messages in
appropriate subject areas in elementary and secondary school
- Advocacy campaign about the increase vegetable production and consumption
pursued through media like print, broadcast, TV and social media
- Awareness campaign through poster-making, slogan writing and cooking contests;
celebration of Nutrition Month
D. Sustainability Mechanism (15%)

Presence of the following:
- Nursery (Seed bank, seed beds, seedlings of vegetables & fruit-bearing trees with
proper labeling)

- Partnership/PTA involvement (number of parents, community and stakeholders
involved in school food production and sustainability of the garden)
- Inclusion of GPP in the School Improvement Plan
- Organized garden tools
