Lesson 1
Sound and No Sound

Sound is anything you hear. There are sounds that make you sing or
dance. There are sounds that make you fell scared. Sounds can be heard
everywhere. What kinds of sounds do you hear on the road? How about in
school? Sometimes, you also need to be quiet. Can you think of a place where
you should observed silence?

Silence is the absence of sound. It means you do not hear anything.

Beats and Rhythm

A beat guides the music. It is a sound that is felt or heard again and again.
Rhythm is the movement in music. It is how the beats move.

Symbols of Beat
How are beats showed? Sometimes, the symbols used. Other times, a
vertical line (│) represents one beat.
│= 1 beat = 1 beat

You may say the syllable “da” to represent one beat. Clap and say “da.”

Symbol of Silence
The symbol represents silence or rest. For this symbol, open your palm
silence.
You may also say “shh” every time you see a rest.

All About Lines
A line is a mark connecting two or more dots. Lines are everywhere. There
are lines inside your classroom, in the garden, and at home.

The line is one of the most important elements of art. You use lines when you
draw.

Kinds of Lines

 There are straight lines

 There are curved lines.

 Lines may be thick or thin.

The Different Parts of my Body
My Body Has Three Parts

 The Head
The head is the topmost part of your body.
The hair, eyes, ears, nose, cheeks, mouth, and chin are parts found in the
head. You can move your head. You can bend it forward, backward, and
sideward.
The neck connects the head to the trunk or body.

 The Trunk
The trunk or torso is the upper half of your body.
The shoulders, chest, waist, back, tummy, hips, and bottom are all parts of
your trunk. You can do different movements using your trunk. You can bend
your trunk forward, backward, and sideward left and right. You can also
make small and big circles using your shoulders and waist.

 The Limbs
Your body has upper and lower limbs.
Your arms, elbows, hands, and fingers make up your upper
limbs. You can do many things using your limbs.
You can reach high and low and you can extend them sideward, too. You
can also use your upper limbs to carry things.
Your lower limbs are composed of your legs, knees, feet, and toes. You can
do many movements using your lower limbs. You can walk, bend, jump, and
run using your lower limbs.

Good Food for You and Me
Healthful Food

There are many kinds of food. Many of them help you to be strong.
Some help you to grow. Others help you to stay.
What makes you move fast? What makes you jump high? Energy is
power. Energy helps you to do work. You can get energy from food.
Look at the picture above. Do you know what they are? They are food
that give energy to the body. Rice, bread, and pasta give you energy. They
help you to move, play, jump, and run.
You also need to build your body. You need food to become big and
strong. Cheese, milk, eggs, meat, and fish are examples of body- building
food.

Do you want to grow tall? Look at the food (a and b) above. They will
help you grow tall and strong.
Some food keep your eyes bright. They keep your skin clear and
smooth. Look at the food (c) above.
Fruits and vegetables are examples of body regulating food. This type
of food gives your body vitamins and minerals. They protect your body from
getting sick.
Healthful foods gives you energy. Healthful foods helps you grow. Healthful
food protects you from sickness. Always choose healthful foods.
Less Healthful Food
Candies, chocolates, and ice creams are examples of sweet food.
Chips are salty food. Food in cans and soft drinks are example of processed
food.
Sweet, salty, and processed are less healthful food. Eating of this
too much of this kind of food is not good for your body.
Remember, always eat the right kind of food. Choose healthful food.
Eat the right amount of food. You will have lots of energy. You will grow tall.
You will be strong. You will be healthy.
