RETINACULUM

Presented by
Amna Naveed
1. Flexor Retinaculum :

• It is thickening of deep fascia that holds the long flexor tendons in position at wrist.
• Stretches across front of wrist .

• Carpal Tunnel:
Converts concave anterior surface of wrist into an osseofascial tunnel called carple tunnel.
• Carpal tunnel is the passage of Median Nerve and Flexor tendon of thumb and fingers.

Attachment of retinaculum:
• Medially
Medially it attaches to pisiform bone and hook of hamate
• Laterally
Laterally it attaches to the tubercle of schaphoid and trapezium bones
• Attachment to trapezium consists of superficial and deep part
• And form a synovial lined tunnel for passage of tendon of the flexor carpi radialis.
• Proximal border of retinaculum is corresponds to distal transverse skin crease in front of wrist and continuous with deep fascia of forearm.
• Distal border is attached to palmar aponeurosis.
2. Extensor Retinaculum :

• Thickening of deep fascia that stretches across the back of wrist and holds the long extensor tendon in position.
• It converts the grooves on posterior surface of distal ends of the radius and ulna into 6 separate tunnels for passage of long extensor tendon.
• Each tunnel is lined with synovial sheath
• Tunnels are separated from one another by Fibrous Septa

Attachment Of Retinaculum
• Medially
Medially it attaches to pisiform bone and hook of hamate
• Laterally
Laterally to the distal end of the radius
• Proximal border of retinaculum is continuous with deep fascia of forearm
• Distal border of retinaculum is continuous with deep fascia of hand
