ALTERATION WITH INFECTION

DURING PREGNANCY

Risks Factors:
1.Chicenpox in pregnancy can be
dangerous for both mother and
baby, so it’s important to seek
advice early if you think you may
have chickenpox.
2. Hepatitis B is a virus that infects the
liver. Many people with Hepatitis B will
show no sign of illness, but they canbe
carriers and may infect others.

 The virus is spread by having sex with an


infected person without using a condom,
and by direct contact with infected
blood. If you have Hepa B or are infected
during pregnancy, you can pass the
infection on to your baby at birth.
 3. Genital Herpes infection can be
dangerous for a newborn baby.
You can get herpes through genital
contact with an infected person or
from oral sex with someone who has
cold sores(oral herpes).
5. HIV in pregnancy
You’ll be offered HIV(Human
Immunodeficiency Virus) test as part of
your routine antenatal care. Your
midwife or doctor will discuss the test
with you, and counseling will be
available if the result is positive.
HIV can be passed from a pregnant
women to her baby during pregnancy,
birth or breastfeeding.
6. Tuberculosis
Risks Factors of Tuberculosis
Positive family history or past
history
Low socioeconomic status
Area with high prevalence of
tuberculosis
Alcohol addiction
Clinical features:
Cough
Weight loss
Sleep sweats
Evening pyrexia
Malaise
Fatigue
Enlarged lymph nodes
7. Candidiasis vaginal infection
spread by the fungus “Candida
Albicans”
Tx. Vaginal tablet or cream
(muconazole/cotrinazole) once a day
for 3 to 1 days.
-usually occur during pregnancy b/c it
increase estrogen level it causes
vaginal pH to less acidic.
If baby delivered through Normal
Spontaneous Vaginal Delivery it can
cause Candidal infection or Thrush
to the Newborn.
8. Gonorrhea
-causative agent Neisseria
Gonorrhoeae
-It can be transmitted by close sexual
contact. The incubation period is 3 to
5 days.
Signs and Symptoms
 Itching or swelling of vulva
 Dysuria
 Dyspareumia
 Joint and tendon pain
 Anal discharge, discomfort and pain
with rectal infection.
9. Syphilis is a sexually transmitted
disease by Treponema Pallidum.
-it can be transmitted to close skin to
skin contact.
-bacterial infection typically
transmitted by kissing with chancre
about to 2-10 weeks will appear.
-Incubation period 10days to
3months.
Signs and Symptoms
 Skin rash that causes small reddish,
brown sores in the mouth, vagina
and anus.
 Fever
 Weight loss/hair loss
 Headache
 Extreme fatigue
10. Trichomoniasis caused by
causative agent “protozoan
parasites”
-curable, incubation period is 4 to
20days.
Metronidazole is a drug of choice
that indicates trichomonial infection.
-use condom to prevent transmission
of infection
Simple Steps To Prevent Infection
During Pregnancy
1. Maintain good hygiene and wash
your hands properly.
2. Cook your meat until it’s well
done.
3. Avoid unpasteurized(raw) milk
and foods made from it
4. Ask your doctor about Group B
streptococcus(GBS)
5. Talk to your doctor about
vaccinations
6.Get tested for sexually transmitted
infections(STI’s)
7.Avoid people who have an infection
8. Protect against insects known to
carry diseases.
