Higher Education is the education beyond high


school, especially at a college or university.
Generally, Higher Education is sought after your
High School diploma to pursue your future career.
With Higher Education you receive a named
degree, diploma, or certificate of higher studies.
Options
Options
● College:
○ Mostly for Associates Degrees or Certificates, offer
fewer programs and smaller classes.
● University:
○ Public or Private, offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees, large campus, devoted to research,
highly reputable professors, and larger classes.
● Community College:
○ Wide variety of programs, focus on Associates degrees but offer certificates, and focus on general
education classes.
● Technical/Vocational College:
○ Career focused, offer either associates degree/certificate of completion/diploma and hands-on training.
● Liberal Arts College:
○ Focuses on well-rounded education and research, undergraduate education, small class sizes and more
classroom discussion.

Not everyone attends college for the college ‘experience’.


“According to our research, 74 percent of those who attended
college to “do what was expected of them” dropped out or
transferred. Of those who went to college “to get away,” over
half had left the school they were attending without a degree
at the time we talked to them.”1 Others are getting away from a
bad situation at home, such as they would going to work.

Others go to college to make better money than without a degree. “Many incoming students also said the ability
"to make more money" was a very important reason to attend college; this percentage rose from 71.7 in 2011 to
74.6 in 2012, another all-time high.”2

look over their situation to decide if
college is right for them. There is no
right or wrong answer.
