Denmark’s commitment
Under the Kyoto Protocol and the internal EU
burden sharing agreement, Denmark has
committed itself to reduce its emissions of
greenhouse gasses with 21 % in 2008 - 12.
This corresponds to 8 – 13 Mt per year in 2008 -
2012.
Denmark is facing a considerable challenge

Only domestic measures : Cost 490 to 615 mio.
EURO.
Cost-effective measures in Denmark under a
given benchmark and flexible mechanisms : Cost
125 to 240 mio. EURO.
Use of flexible mechanisms primarily a task for
the private sector under the EU ETS.
Government will help get the market up and
running through early investments.
Denmark’s Purchase Programmes
Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
– Funds available: 80 mill EURO from 2004-09
– CDM from developing countries.
Ministry of the Environment:
– Funds available: 100 mill EURO from 2003-09
– JI and CDM from Eastern Europe and Central
Asia.
