BLUE EYES TECHNOLOGY
 The BLUE EYES technology aims at creating
computational machines that have
perceptual and sensory ability like those of
human beings.

 BLUE in the term stands for Bluetooth, which

enables reliable wireless communication.
 EYES, because the eye movement enables us
to obtain a lot of interesting and important
information.
NEED OF BLUE EYES TECHNOLOGY
 Human errors remain the primary cause of most natural
calamities. Any unsupervised social contribution can
degrade the overall performance of a system. Using an
automated and permanent solution can avoid significant
losses in such scenarios.
 Human intervention and supervision can result in a drop in
vigilance and weariness. We need an automated observer
who can work uninterruptedly, and this technology offers
a perfect solution to such problems.
 Most importantly, we need it to develop a computer
system that can feel, understand, and reciprocate human
behavior. A computer system that can listen to the talk
and even scream.
TYPES OF EMOTIONAL SENSORY

• For Hand: Emotion Mouse

• For Eyes: Expression Glasses
For Hand: Emotion Mouse
It is a device to observe and track the emotions of a user just by touching on it. It is
designed to evaluate and identify the user’s emotions such as fear, surprise, anger,
sadness, happiness etc.
when he/she is interacting with the computer. The main aim of the emotional mouse to
collect the user’s physical and physiological data by just a mere touch.
Information Obtained From Emotion Mouse:-
1) Behavior
a. Mouse movements
b. Button click frequency
c. Finger pressure when a user presses his/her button
2) Physiological information
a. Heart rate (Electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG),
Photoplethysmogram (PPG))
b. Skin temperature (Thermistor)
c. Skin electricity (Galvanic skin response, GSR)
d. Electromyography activity (Electromyogram, MG)
For Eyes: Expression Glasses
It is a wearable device that allows any viewer to see a graphical view of the
wearer’s facial expressions. The glasses are having the capacity of learning
an individual’s expressions patterns and discriminating between various
expressions like confusion and interest expression
Manual And Gaze Input Cascaded Pointing
(MAGIC POINT)

 Reduce the cursor movement needed for target

selection.
 Click on the target with a regular manual input devices.

 Two MAGIC pointing techniques: -

 Liberal
 Conservative
Approaches

1. Liberal Approach

To wrap the cursor to every new object user

looks at.

2. Conservative
Does not wrap the cursor target until the manual
input device has been actuated.
DESIGNING
 A personal area network for linking all the
operators and the supervising system
 Two major units
 DAU (data acquisition unit )
 CSU (central system unit )

Multisensor

Bluetooth technology provides means for

creating a Personal Area Network linking the
operators and the central system
WORKING
 The major parts of the blue eyes system are DAU &
CSU.
 The task of the mobile DAU is to maintain
Bluetooth connections to get information from the
sensor and sending it over the wireless connection.
 To deliver the alarm message sent from the CSU to
the operator & handle personalized ID cards.
 CSU maintain the other side of the Bluetooth
connection, buffers incoming sensor data performs
online data analysis, records the conclusion for
further exploration & provide visualization
interface.
THE HARDWARE
Data Acquisition Unit
Data Acquisition Unit is a mobile part of the Blue eyes system. Its main task is to
fetch the physiological data from the sensor and to send it to the central system to
be processed. To accomplish this task the device must manage wireless Bluetooth
connections. Personal ID cards and PIN codes provide the operator’s authorization.
CENTRAL SYSTEM UNIT

Central System Unit hardware is the second peer of the wireless

connection. The box contains a Bluetooth module (based on
ROK101008) and a PCM codec for voice data transmission. The
module is interfaced to a PC using a parallel, serial and USB cable.
The audio data is accessible through standard mini-jack sockets
THE SOFTWARE

Blue Eyes software’s main task is to look after working operators'

physiological condition. To assure instant reaction on the
operators' condition change the software performs real time
buffering of the incoming data, real-time physiological data
analysis and alarm triggering.
The Blue Eyes software comprises several functional modules
System core facilitates the transfers flow between other system
modules (e.g. transfers raw data from the Connection Manager to
data analyzers, processed data from the data analyzers to GUI
controls, other data analyzers, data logger etc.).
CONNECTION MANAGER
 It is responsible for handling the wireless
communication between the DAU and CSU
 The Connection Manager handles:
1. Communication with the CSU hardware
2. Searching for new devices in the covered range
3. Establishing Bluetooth connections
4. Connection authentication
5. Incoming data buffering
DATA ANALYSIS MODULE
 The module performs the analysis of the raw
sensor data in order to obtain information about
the operator’s physiological condition. The
separately running Data Analysis Module
supervises each of the working operators.

 The module consists of a number of smaller

analyzers extracting different types of information.
Each of the analyzers registers at the appropriate
Operator Manager or another analyzer as a data
consumer and, acting as a producer, provides the
results of the analysis.
VISUALIZATION MODULE

 It provides a user interface for the supervisors. It

enables them to watch each of the working
operator’s physiological condition along with a
preview of selected video source and related
sound stream. All the incoming alarm messages
are instantly signaled to the supervisor.
DATA SECURITY
 Only registered mobile devices
can connect to the system
 Bluetooth connection authentication
 Bluetooth connection encryption
 Access rights restrictions
 Personal and physiological data encryption
APPLICATIONS
 To create “Face-Responsive Display” and
“Perceptive Environments”.
 Security
 Blue eyes is going to find its way in the
routines of human beings with applications
such as TV, washing machine etc.
 Enable the computer to adapt a working
style that fits users personality to increase
his productivity.
ADVANTAGES
 Prevention from dangerous incidents
 Physiological condition monitoring
 Operators position detection
DISADVANTAGES
 Doesn’t predict nor interfere with operator’s
thoughts
 Cannot force directly the operator to work
 Target not selected if not looked at for a set
threshold.
 Target selected if stared at without user Intention.
 Expensive
 Not 100% accurate.
WILL BLUE EYES TECHNOLOGY
EMPOWER COMPUTER SYSTEMS?
 It works on an uninterrupted sensing mechanism that uses high-
end microphones and video cameras to understand human
actions.
 It uses various physiological parameters to notify and trigger pre-
defined alarms. The parameters include heartbeat rate, eye
movement, blood oxygenation, and many more.
 It works on a personal area network linking mechanism which
connects all supervision system and operators.
 The operator observes the controlled systems using hearing and
sight senses while the physiological parameters are taken care of
by the supervising system.
 Moreover, it also uses a high-end eye movement sensor
integrated with a CMOS camera to track the point of gaze and
see what the operator is looking at.
FUTURE ENHANCEMENTS

 The hand is quicker than the eye, or at least more

accurate. Also, current versions of the gaze tracking
technology only come within an inch or so of its target.
 One limitation of today’s input devices is that we have to
tell them what we want. When you lay your hand on the
Emotion Mouse, it will measure how you are feeling and
react accordingly.
 In the future, ordinary household devices-such as
Televisions, Ovens may be able to do their jobs when we
look at them and speak to them.
CONCLUSION
 In the near future ,ordinary household devices-
such as television , refrigerators, ovens may be
able to do their jobs when we look at them and
speak to them.
 Unlimited Future applications of blue eye
technology would boom the market.
 Provide more delicate and user friendly facilities
in computer devices.
 Gap between the physical and electronic world is
reduced.
