Waste

Management
• What is it?
• What can we do?
• How do we segregate our waste?
Waste
Management
Waste management is the
activities and actions
required to manage waste
from its inception to its
disposal of waste together
with monitoring and
regulation of the waste
management process.
What can we do to
promote waste
management?
REDUCE
This means to use the
environmental resources in a
sustainable way and prevent
the wastage. For example,
using a bucket full of water
instead of a shower while
bathing
REUSE
This means we can use the
same thing many times. For
example, using a polythene
bag again for different
purposes.
RECYCLE
This means things are
processed and may get
converted into some other
product so that they can be
used again. For example,
paper is recycled.
RECOVER
This means a safe and eco-
friendly alternative should
be used in place of a thing.
For example, using a
clothing bag instead of a
polythene bag.
How do we segregate
our waste?
LIQUID
WASTE
Liquid waste can be defined
as such liquids as
wastewater, fats, oils or
grease, used oil, etc. These
are liquids that are
hazardous to the
environment.
SOLID
RUBBISH
More commonly known as
trash or garbage, consists of
everyday items we use and
then throw away, such as
product packaging,
furniture, clothing, etc.
ORGANIC
WASTE
Organic waste is any
material that is
biodegradable and comes
from either a plant or an
animal.
RECYCLABE
RUBBISH
Recyclable materials include
many kinds of glass, paper,
cardboard, metal, plastic,
tires, textiles, batteries, and
electronics.
HAZARDOUS
WASTE
Hazardous wastes are defined
as any waste or combination
of wastes which pose a
substantial present or
potential hazard to human
health or living organisms
because such wastes are non-
biodegradable.
