THE EFFECT OF TEACHER FEEDBACK ON STUDENTS’

ABILITY IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT

Introduction
 As we known, There are four basic English skills,
 namely reading, listening, speaking, and writing.
 Reading and listening are receptive skills.
 Speaking and writing are productive skills
 Writing in EFL context is not easy. because there are some matters to consider.
 such as selecting the appropriate grammar and vacabulary, thinking about the purpose
of the next sentences to be composed. (Swales & Feak, 1994).
 Like how to make good descriptive text. We think what vocabulary and grammar should
we use? And what generic stucture of Descriptive Text?
 So, beside the students have to more practice, the Teacher’s role is also needed.
Identification of the Problem
 The students do not understand how to write Descriptive Text correctly.
What tenses and vocabulary should they use?
How to organize the sentences?
 The students skills in writing is poor cause they are rarely practice writing in
class and at home.
 Incorrect teaching methods by teacher will affect students’ writing ability.
• Teacher’s role is needed. The teachers should be professional, master
teaching material, have a good character, and able motivate students in
learning.
• So, I will use teacher feedback method to see the effect on students’ ability,
especially in writing descriptive text.
Research Questions
 How many effects of using Teacher Feedback to
improve students’ ability in writing descriptive
text?
 There is any significant effect teacher feedback
on students’ ability in writing descriptive text?
 How does teacher feedback affect students’
achievement in writing descriptive text?
Review of Literature
 Kalayo (2007, p. 127) Writing is both a process and a product.
 writing is difficult language skill where the writer think what is the topic, choice of words,
and organize the sentences.
 About writing we have to know how the process of writing?
 The Process of Writing : start from Prewriting, in this step we find out the ideas of the
topic. next
 Organizing, how to organize sentence to be good paragraph.
 Writing, after organize we write, and last
 Polishing (Revising and Editing)
 Assessing of Writing Descriptive. Hughey (1983) proposes 5 components in a writing
composition : Content, Organization, Vocabulary, Grammatical features, Mechanics.
 “Feedback is information that is given to the students about their performance of learning
task, usually with the objective of improving their performance” Penny Ur (1996, p.73)
Methodology
 Location at MTs Darul Fatah Teratak Padang, Kampar Utara. Start
from February to March 2021
 Experimental teaching in MTs Darul Fatah for eighth-grade.
 The experimental Designs used in this research consisted of two class
groups (Experimental class and control class). The class received pre-
test and post-test.
