Analytical Reports

 Interpretative or investigative
 Analyses the facts, draws
conclusions, and makes
recommendations
Indirect Approach
Usually Analytical Reports are written in the
indirect pattern
1. Introduction or description of the problem,
2. Facts and interpretation
3. Conclusions and recommendations.
 Useful when readers are unfamiliar with the
problem/ when readers must be persuaded
Indirect Approach
E.g.: The automobiles sector in Pakistan seems to have
made tremendous headway in the last ten years. Company
X has produced three models of cars. However, there is a
decline of sales of company X cars in 2020-2021. The
Analytical Report will analyze the causes of declining sales of the
Company X cars in the market. These could be:
1. With the entry of new players in the market the company
is facing stiff competition.
2. There is also a slump in the market with excessive
production and insufficient demand.

attempt to solve problems by
evaluating options and offering
recommendations.
ii. Often solicited; that is, the writer has
been asked to investigate and report
Feasibility Reports
i. When a company must decide whether to
proceed with a plan of action, it may
require a feasibility report.

site?
iii. A feasibility report would examine/analyze
the practicality of implementing the
proposal.
4. Minutes of meetings
i. A record of the proceedings of a meeting
ii. Minutes may be kept for groups that convene regularly, such as clubs,
committees, and boards of directors.
5. Summaries
i. A summary condenses the primary ideas, conclusions, and
recommendations of a longer report or publication.
ii. Employees may be asked to write summaries of technical reports.
iii. Students may be asked to write summaries of periodical articles or books
iv. Executive summaries condense long reports such as business plans and
proposals.
