 ■ The story we are going the adapt for this audio
project is Rumpelstiltskin. This story was
originally told in Germany back in 1812. That’s
why we’re setting in in Germany during the
great depression.

Idea ■ The reason we’re setting the story in Germany

during the great depression isn’t just because
the story has a link to Germany, we’re also
setting it there because the hyperinflation will
give a more dramatic reason for this imposable
task.
■ The genre of this project is drama.
■ The story will mostly be told through the
mothers perspective, however sometimes will
break away from her point of view so we can
show other parts of the story.
The story of Rumpelstiltskin
The basic summary of the originally
Rumpelstiltskin:
There is a girls who’s father giver her away to the
princes in hopes that she will become rich.
However the father lie saying his daughter could
turn straw into gold, so the king locks her away so
she will make this gold. While locked away
waiting for death (because the king threated to kill
her if she didn’t make the gold), a weird man
approaches her saying he can help however she
must give something back to him in retune. At
first it a necklaces then her ring then he demands
for her first born child. When she has her child the
man comes back planning the take the kid but the
woman doesn’t want to hand over her kid so he
gives the now queen three days to guess his name
right. She fails the first two days but succeeded on
the third day after one of her massagers discovers
it meaning she can keep her child and the family
she has made.
Our version
■ In our version the woman will already be
married and have one child.
■ She isn’t given away and her husband
doesn’t make her spin gold because he’s
greedy, he makes her spin gold so they can
eat.
■ Her husbands hunger has driven him crazy.
■ She never agrees for her son to be taken.
■ Rumpelstiltskin kidnaps her son in the
night as payment because she has nothing
else of value.
■ She never finds her son after he is taken.
■ She knows Rumpelstiltskin's name but runs
out of time.
 Why the
The reason we set the story in the great depression
is because it would explain why she need to keep
making gold.

great She needs to make gold in hope her family can

afford something to eat, however the prices for
things keep rising day by day so she never has
depression enough money to even afford anything, not even
bread
 For this project we plan to use a lot of practical
and atmospheric sound effects like walking,
muffled background talking, rain, possibly fire and
a lot more. But the key sound effects we want to
include are:

Sound effects ■ The gold being created – we plan to do this by

crushing cans and dropping coins
■ Creaky staircase
■ Intense thunder, rain and wind noses to make
the kidnapping more dramatic
■ Magical sounds – theses would be played
when Rumpelstiltskin appears and disappears
