VLSI

 Very large-scale integration (VLSI) is the process of creating an

integrated circuit (IC) by combining millions of MOS transistors onto a
single chip.
 VLSI began in the 1970s when MOS integrated circuit chips were widely
adopted, enabling complex semiconductor and telecommunication
technologies to be developed.
Application of VLSI

 VLSI circuits are used everywhere, real applications include microprocessors in

a personal computer or workstation,
 chips in a graphic card,
 digital camera or camcorder,
 chips in a cell phone or a portable computing device, and
 embedded processors in an automobile
Why VLSI is needed

 VLSI lets IC designers add all of these into one chip. The electronics industry
has achieved a phenomenal growth over the last few decades, mainly due to
the rapid advances in large scale integration technologies and system design
applications.
Advantages of VLSI

 The size of the circuits is reduced.

 VLSI has a lot of job inflow.
 VLSI occupies a relatively low area.
 Discrete components use a lot of power.
 The reliability in using VLSI in circuits is extremely high.
 The operating speed of components strongly increasing.
