VERNIER CALIPER

Least count = 1/50 = 0.02mm

PARTS OF VERNIER CALIPER
Upper/Internal jaws:
The measurements from inner side of object obtain by utilizing caliper upper jaws.

Lower/External jaws:
The outside measurements like length and width obtain by the lower jaws known as external jaws.

Depth rod/probe:
The holes depth measurement attain by depth rod. The turning of thumb screw protrudes the depth rod.

Main/Vernier scale:
Vernier caliper scales; main at top, Vernier at bottom.
Locking Screw:
The lock screw secures the jaws into place, so the object you are measuring can be removed, and readings taken.

Thumb Screw:
The thumb screw is located at the bottom of the vernier scale. Its purpose is to provide a grip for the user to slide the
jaws easily and adjust the position of the jaws and depth rod while maintaining a firm grip on the object.

Types of Vernier Calipers:

• Analog Vernier calipers
• Digital Vernier calipers
• Outside Vernier calipers
• Inside Vernier calipers
• Simple Vernier calipers

HOW TO DECREASE ERROR OF READING

FOR DIAMETER
Take a diameter, then rotate the pin for 2nd
time and take dia again and then rotate pin
For 3rd time and take dia again.
Taking 3 measurements and take the mean
of 3 measurements.

FOR LENGTHS
Take a length, then rotate the pin for 2nd
time and take length again and then rotate pin
For 3rd time and take length again.
Taking 3 measurements and take the mean
of 3 measurements.
FOR DIAMETER
Take a diameter of pin 1, then rotate the
PROCEDURE pin for 2nd time and take dia again and then
rotate pin For 3rd time and take dia again.
Taking 3 measurements and take the mean
of 3 measurements.
