TO BE + V3
Why should you use the passive
voice ?
1. You don’t want to say who/what did the action.
2. You don’t know who did the action.
3. The object is the most important part of the
sentence.
STEPS
1. Identify the subject , the verb and the object.
2. Move the object become the new subject of the sentence.
3. Check the active sentence. What is the verb tense in the active sentence ?
4. Conjugate the verb “be”
5. Add the past participle (V3) of the main verb after be
6. Subject of the active sentence
Someone has stolen my neighbour’s car.
S be V O

My neighbour’s car has been stolen (by someone).

The children ate the cake
S V O

The cake was eaten (by the children)

POSITIVE SENTENCE
ACTIVE : Tania makes a cup of tea every morning.
PASSIVE : A cup of tea is made by Tania every morning.

ACTIVE : Tania makes three cups of tea every morning.


PASSIVE : Three cups of tea are made by Tania every morning.
SIMPLE PRESENT (is/am/are/do/does)
NEGATIVE SENTENCE
ACTIVE : Tania doesn’t make a cup of tea every morning.
PASSIVE : A cup of tea isn’t made by Tania every morning.
