WHAT IS PEARSON’S CORRELATION
COEFFICIENT? AND, WHEN TO USE THE TEST?
Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient
This is a technique for investigating the relationship between two
quantitative, continuous variables, for example, age and blood
pressure. Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r) is a measure of the
strength of the association between the two variables. In simple
words, Pearson’s correlation coefficient calculates the effect of
change in one variable when the other variable changes.
COMMON USES
1. Whether a statistically significant linear relationship exists
between two continuous variables.
2. The strength of a linear relationship (i.e. how close the
relationship is to being a perfectly straight line)
3. The direction of a linear relationship (increasing or decreasing)
SAMPLE S.O.P OR STATEMENT OF THE
PROBLEM
This study was conducted to determine the level of use of
teaching strategies and the level of teaching performance of
Grade 11 English teachers in public high schools of Babak
District, Island Garden City of Samal.
Most specifically, this study sought to answer the
following questions:
1. What is the level of teaching strategies of Grade 11 English
teachers?
2. What is the level of teaching performance of Grade 11 English
teachers?
3. Is there a significant relationship between the level of teaching
strategies and the level of teaching performance of Grade 11
English teachers?

strategies and performance.
If the receiving teacher sometimes uses the

If the receiving teacher seldom uses the

If the receiving teacher never uses the

REPORT THE FINDINGS
What is the level of teaching strategies of Grade 11 English teachers?
 It is noted that the Grade 11 English teachers are outstanding in terms of
teaching strategies with an overall mean of 4.82 which is described as
outstanding and interpreted that they are ALWAYS using the strategies in
teaching.
What is the level of teaching performance of Grade 11 English teachers?
 It is also noted that the Grade 11 English teachers are outstanding in terms of
teaching performance which had an overall mean of 4.74 and is described as
outstanding and that the respondents are ALWAYS showing the performance in
teaching.
Is there a significant relationship between the level of teaching strategies and
the level of teaching performance of Grade 11 English teachers?
 It is determined that there is a significant relationship between the level of
teaching strategies and the level of teaching performance of the Grade 11
English teachers because the result of Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.029 which is below ɑ
= 0.05. Therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected.
