SCIENCE OF EARLY

CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
PRESENTED BY ANEELA KAUSAR
Science of ECE
 Child development is a foundation for community
development and economic development, as capable
children become the foundation of a prosperous and
sustainable society.
 Brains are built over time.
 The interactive influences of genes and experience
literally shape the architecture of the developing brain,
and the active ingredient is the “serve and return” nature
of children’s engagement in relationships with their
parents and other caregivers in their family or
community.
Science of ECE
 Both brain architecture and developing abilities are built
“from the bottom up,” with simple circuits and skills providing
the scaffolding for more advanced circuits and skills over time.
 Toxic stress in early childhood is associated with persistent
effects on the nervous system and stress hormone systems that
can damage developing brain architecture and lead to lifelong
problems in learning, behavior, and both physical and mental
health.
 Creating the right conditions for early childhood
development is likely to be more effective and less costly than
addressing problems at a later age.
Science of ECE
It is our hope and belief that better public
understanding of the rapidly growing science of early
childhood and early brain development can provide a
powerful impetus for the design and implementation
of policies and programs that could make a significant
difference in the lives of all children.
PHILOSOPHY OF ECE
The philosophy is a living document; it isn’t set in
stone and can change with developing trends.
If a parent wants their child educated in a way that
conflicts with your own philosophy or that of your
school, then it’s your entitlement to recommend they
find one that suits them.
The learning environment will be one that is bright,
secure, motivating and fun, so that the children are
encouraged to achieve their full potential.
Philosophy of ECE
It is essential that the children are valued, nurtured
and respected as individuals. (personal and
educational development)
The wellbeing of the children is essential, irrespective
of their personal circumstance, such as race, religion,
gender, disability or cultural backgrounds.
 Preschool environment ensures a warm, caring,
supportive atmosphere where each child can succeed,
grow, feel loved and secure and develop a sense of
belonging.
Philosophy of ECE
Guidelines of sensible and responsible behaviour
make children aware of the consequences of the
choices and actions they make.
