There is and there are

We use both there is and there are to mean hay, we use there is for
singular and no countable nouns
and we use there are with plural noun.

Example:
Singular noun There is a/one gas station around the corner.
There is a lot pollution in this city.
There are some groceries stores in downtown.
 Now lets talk about a, some and any.
 A/one means un, uno and una.
 There is a chair in the classroom.
 There is one chair in the classroom.
 But some and any both means algunos or algunas.
 Some is used in positive sentences
 Any is used in negative and interrogative sentences.
Example with uncountables nouns
All things that you weight in kilos or measure in liters are uncountable nouns.
Things that can’t be plural are uncountables nouns example bread, oil, money etc..

Is there any water in the pipe? * we start question with is/are.


Yes, there is some water in the pipe.
No, there is not any water in the pipe.
Example with countables
Are there any night clubs in town?
Yes, there are some night clubs in town
No, there are not any night clubs in town.
No, there are no night clubs inthe town.

Is there any pharmacy near the park in Misantla? Hay algún, is there any?

Yes, There is two of them, one is in front of the bus station and the other next the bank.

 No, there is not a church in Misantla.
