Week 3  WONDERS OF SCIENCE


 EXPLANATION TEXT
 CONNECTORS OF REASONS
 ‘THE’
Introduction: “When the student learn about science, they will discover a lot of wonderful things.”
ENGAGE
1. Have the students read about the selection entitled “Why” in page 56-57.
2. While reading the narrative, the teacher will let them understand about the curious little boy who is
always asking, “Why?”
3. They will also read different selections that will help them discover more about cows and volcanoes.
Pages 58-61
4. Then will do an activity related to the selection, after reading those selection.

GRAMMAR: CONNECTORS OF REASONS


EXPLORE  The students will do an activity, they are going to find the connectors that give reasons from the
selection.
 The teacher will also discuss about it by asking the students some questions that will make them
answer why? Then she will use these connectors in writing a sentence.
 Connectors such as “because, as, so and since”

The teacher will discuss about the explanation text in pages 68-71. She will let the students identify its part
EXPLAIN and make a science explanation text that will explain why something happens the way it does.

Working in a group
 Work in groups of four. Discuss and draw up a list of ‘why’ questions related to science.
ELABORATE  Every member of the group needs to think of at least one question.
 They will select a question and discuss the answer among the group. -Refer page 73

 BOOK REVIEW

Introduction: Refer to page 38-39


ENGAGE 1. Let the students read about the written book review of Suping, Nick and Raju. Refer 40-43
2. After reading the book review, the students will answer the questions.
3. Upon reading the activity, they are also exploring what’s in a book review.

GRAMMAR:
EXPLORE  SINGULAR OR PLURAL?
- After the first reading activity, the class will share what they learn and what they like about the
stories.
- Then the teacher will discuss the collective nouns as singular or plural. Pages 44-45
 WHAT MUST HAPPEN FIRST?
- Refer to page 46, the teacher will discuss about the “if + verb in the simple present tense.. will +
verb”
 QUANTIFIERS
- From reading the book reviews, the teacher will let the student look for quantifiers
“either, neither, another & other” pg. 47

EXPLAIN  The teacher will discuss about the parts of book review and what’s in a book review. Pages 50 -
53

Presenting a movie review


ELABORATE  Start the activity with this question, What is your favorite movie?
 The students will present a short review of their favorite movie.
 They will follow the guide questions on the book that will help them to come up with what to say
about the movie.
 Prepare a note cards and show it to everyone. Refer to page 55
