Lab8: MS Word
MS-Word
• Microsoft Word or MS-WORD (often
called Word) is a graphical word processing
program that users can type with.
•  It's easy to use
• Allow users to type and save documents as it
has helpful tools to make documents.
• Starting with MS-Word:
To open MS-word, Click Start button, start menu
will appear
Select All programs and click Microsoft Office-
Word
The Microsoft Word program will load, and a
blank document will appear on your screen.
The Microsoft Office Button:
You click on it to see these options: New, Open, Save, Save
As, Print, Prepare, Send, Publish and Close.
Getting Help in MS Word 2007:
At the top right‐hand corner of the screen and click on the
question mark icon or press F1
• MS Word is organized into tabbed menu bars,
like the one you see at the top of the screen.
• By default, MS Word starts you off in the Home
tab when you first open the program.
• From here you can change the size, color, font,
style and justification of text. As well, you can also
add highlighting, shading and borders to your text,
and/or put it into a bulleted or numbered list.
Styles:
• Styles are predefined settings font, size, color, etc… for
text.
• For example, – “Normal” default style in MS Word is
11pt, Calibri font, black text. – “Heading 1” is 14pt,
Cambria font, navy blue text.
• You can also change it simply by right‐clicking on it and
selecting “Modify
Textboxes:
A textbox can be placed anywhere on the page,
giving you much more control of how your
document will look
• To insert a textbox, go to the insert tab and click
on the text box button.
• Drag mouse pointer over an area to create
textbox.
• You can enter text into a textbox and control its
formatting (alignment, font, etc)
Word Art:
WordArt allows you to add interesting text effects
into your documents.
To insert WordArt, go to the insert tab, click on
WordArt and select a design.
Shapes:
To insert arrows and other shapes go to the insert tab, click
on the Shapes button and select the shape that you want
to insert.
Smart Art:
• Smart Art is a drawing tool bar and part of Word, Excel
and PowerPoint
• When you click it, Graphic menu will appear.

• Symbols can also be inserted from the insert tab
and include things like the Greek alphabet,
mathematical notation.
• Pictures:
Pictures can be inserted in a number of ways. For example:
You can simply cut and paste your image into your
document
From the insert tab you can insert clipart
From the insert tab you can insert a picture from a file on
your computer.
Page Numbers:
To add page numbers to a document, select “Page
Number” from the insert tab, then you will be

Saving your Document:
• To save your document, simply click on the MS logo in the
top left‐hand corner and you see a drop down menu giving
you various options including saving (or press Ctrl+S).
Printing your document:
Select MS logo, a menu of choices will appear, select print,
a standard Print Menu screen will appear, select pages
and click ok or press (Ctrl+P)
Spell Check and Grammar:
• MS Word provides you with many tools for
spelling and grammar and these can be found in
the Review tab (or press F7).

Lab Tasks
1. Create a word file and write names of your group
members using different font styles( different colors, size,
style, bullets)
2. Draw a table of 3x4 and 6x5.
3. Draw a scatter plot of the following values of X and Y
X= 1,3,5,7,9
Y= 2,4,6,8,10
4. Save your file in PDF format
