ACE

A serve that the opponent failed to receive.


ASSIST
Any set ball that results in a kill or an attack.
ATTACK

Any attempt by the offense to score a point


against the defense.
CUT OR CUT SHOT

An attack with an extreme angle.


DIG

A defensive contact after an opponent´s


attack resulting in a playable ball.
DOUBLE

A fault in which the player contacts the ball


with 2 body parts consecutively.
DUMP

A surprise attack by a front row setter to


catch the defense off guard.
FREE BALL

A ball that is passed


over the net because an
attack wasn´t possible.
JOUST

When the players try to push the ball into the other side.
KILL

A successful, legal, point-scoring play.


SIDE-OUT

A side- out in volleyball occurs when the team that


served the ball fails to win a point on the play, resulting
in a loss of serve to the opponent.
ROOF

When a player jumps above the net to


block, and blocks the ball straight down.
STUFF BLOCK

When a player jumps about the height of the net, blocks the
ball, and the ball goes back at the person who attacked
(spiked) the ball.
PAINT BRUSH
When the hitter swings and barely "brushes" the
bottom of the ball. The ball often drops over the
blockers for a kill.
