MRV FiberDriver EUSM Module
Hands on

Connectivity Unlimited™
EUSM Hands-on example #1

Connectivity Unlimited™
Technical Objective

 Network Service Providers have marketed multiple tiers of communications

bandwidth access to clients based on pricing and data requirements.

 A client can subscribe to access services according to level of service such as

10Mbps, 20Mbps, 100Mbps, etc. as determined by their bandwidth
requirements and available budget.

 The level of service definition has a policy to enforce bandwidth in both

upstream and downstream directions

 Each customer assign a Service VLAN to cross provider network

Typical Deployment Application

Connectivity Unlimited™
General Steps

 The Fiber Driver EUSM modules can be configured to rate limit

the data traffic flow :
− symmetric
− asymmetric
 The rate limiting is configured at the module level on the ingress
data stream from the user access port.
 To configure symmetric rate limiting:
Central Office (CO) and Customer Premise (CPE) configured to
the same rate limiting
 To configure asymmetric rate limiting:
the CO and CPE configured EUSM independently to the
respective downstream and upstream subscribed data
bandwidth rates.

Connectivity Unlimited™
General Steps

 To configure Q-in-Q VLAN (VLAN ID == 1500) on CO-CPE (VLAN

manipulation can be done on the egress side of the customer
facing port):
- CO Stacking Q-in-Q VLAN
- CPE Stripping Q-in-Q VLAN

EUSM Hands-on example #2

Connectivity Unlimited™
Technical Objective

 A client can subscribe to access services consisting of two service level:

- High priority traffic
- Best effort

 Customer’s traffic needs to be rate shaped according to those service levels.

 The level of service definition has a policy to enforce bandwidth in both

upstream and downstream directions

 Untagged traffic and traffic coming with undefined VLANs should be dropped.

Rate limiting configured based on incoming VLAN ID:

- VLAN ID == 100 for High Priority traffic
- VLAN ID == 200 for Best Effort traffic

To configure asymmetric rate limiting:

respective downstream and upstream subscribed data bandwidth
rates.
