SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES
Power train is one of the heaviest system and the main source
of vibrations

We have to reduce the level of unwanted vibrations and noise

with the help of proper use of engine mount .

This seminar deals with techniques to reduce engine vibrations

and optimized shape of power train mounts.

Use of advanced optimization software to obtain excellent results.

Literature Review:
• Suresh et al. (1994) proposed a nonlinear unconstrained optimization procedure to optimum d
esign variables of engine mounts for minimizing transmitted force to the chassis. The method is
capable of incorporating any stiffness, orientation/location and natural frequency constraints. Th
e method relies on a mathematical model of the engine and its mounting system, and is limited t
o minimizing transmitted forces to the chassis through themounts

• sanket c., Rao V.(2001) The Engine Mount model that is being used in the V6 Engines today
has a weight of roughly around 1100 grams. It is aimed to bring down the weight limit to1050
Grams. This has been achieved in the case of the analysis of the Modified Model. The FEA
stress of the models is supposed to be within the respective theoretical stress values. Considering
both the weight and the stress limitations, it has been found that the unmodified Model is not
suitable for industrial usage for various factors of safety. The Modified Model is an
improvisation of the existing industrial model (Un-Modified Model) and it is well within the
both the weight and the stress limitations.
Therefore, it can be optimized as a working model and can be selected for practical usage.

Introduction of Solidthinking Inspire Software :

With Inspire
• Create, modify, Customize Material, optimize, Analyz
e the performance.

•To make optimal use of the material by placing it only

where needed to meet structural requirements.

•Solidthinking Inspire is the most inventive software in

producing generative design of parts.
Topology Optimization:
The topology optimization process carves material away from design spaces, creating the light
est structure capable of withstanding the forces you apply to your mode

Advantages:
•Solve the time-consuming issue in design processes
•Construct the lightweight and material-optimized design

Disadvantages:
•Limit the development of the prototype due to deficiency in
manufacturing capabilities.

Topography optimization:
For: Thin Walled Structures

• Topography optimization is an advanced form of shape optimiza

tion that generates beads or swages on a design space

• maximizing the stiffness of components without adding mass

FUTURE SCOPE:
Nowadays automotive manufacturing industries are research on
reduction of a vibration and noise in automotive structure.

Recently all manufacturers requires optimized shape and light

weight structure for better performance

Many automobile manufacturers (AUDI, Volkswagen, Renault) use

Inspire Software for optimisation Of their components
Conclusion:

• Topology optimization approach is presented to create an innovative

design of an engine mount.

• The Engine mounting has been used to for mounting support as well
as reduction of the vibration created by the engine.

• Reduction in weight of mounts ultimately reduce overall weight of ve

hicle . That leads to increase performance , fuel economy , cost reducti
on.
