Fourier Transform

Fourier Transform
• A mathematical tool used for frequency analysis of signals

 𝑥 ( 𝑡 ) ⟶ 𝑥 ( 𝑗 𝜔)
  ∞
− 𝑗𝜔𝑡
𝑥 ( 𝑗𝜔 )= ∫ 𝑥 (𝑡)∙ 𝑒 𝑑𝑡
−∞
Fourier Transform of DC Signals

 𝑥 ( 𝑗𝜔 )⟶ 𝑥 (𝑡)

  ∞
1 𝑗𝜔𝑡
𝑥 ( 𝑗𝜔 )= ∫ 𝑥 ( 𝑗 𝜔)∙ 𝑒 𝑑 𝜔
2 𝜋 −∞
Conditions for Existence of Fourier Transform
1.Signal should have finite number of maxima and minima over any finite
interval.
2. Signal should have finite number of discontinuities over any finite interval.
3. Signal should be absolutely integrable.

Example: Find the fourier transform of a unit step signal (u(t)).
