INTRODUCTION

Soil is treated as a complex material. In developing countries like India, due to

remarkable development in road infrastructure, soil stabilization has become the
major issue in construction activity. The existing soil may not be suitable for
construction due to poor bearing capacity and higher compressibility.
Therefore, adequate measures are taken to stabilize the soil as per the
construction requirement. Study shows that over the recent years, addition of
reinforcement helps to solve the problem as it the most abundant soil in india
with 29.7% of total geographical area.

NEED OF PROJECT

The latest structure needs a stable foundation to ensure the best construction
and durability. The foundation itself must rest on a strong soil that is able to
transfer the entire load of the building adequately. If the soil is weak, over
time it will compact and begin to swell/shrink. This swelling/shrinking soil,
leads to the entire structure failing.

This is one of the major reasons apart from reduction in plasticity and
increase in soil durability and stiffness for which the project is conducted.

The reason we use geo-jute because it is easily available, bio degradable and
easy to use.
And also it poses properties like high initial tensile strength, great moisture
retention capacity and it is biodegradable.
So we use the geo jute to check how it improves the stability of soil.

RESULT
The result of mixing jute fibre in soil on its compaction values is as follows :
Maximum Dry Density VS Fiber content

This shows that with increase fibre content dry density of soil decreases with a
constant rate.

Results from direct shear test on different values of Jute fiber shows following result :
Max Shear Stress VS Normal Stress

This shows that shear strength of soil increases with increase in Jute fiber content.

CONCLUSION

● By increasing jute fibre content MDD decreases and OMC

increases.
● Bearing capacity is also increased due to the greater stability.
● Mixing of different percentages of geo-jute helps in greater
integration strength of soil hence increasing the bearing capacity.
● Geo-jute is the most cost efficient.
● It’s also very eco friendly.
● Drainage is properly done.
● In case of pavement, sub-base and subgrade is separated.
● It helps in removal of excess water from the soil.

SCOPE OF RESEARCH WORK IN
FUTURE
● Optimization of size and shape of fibre.
● Measurement of aging and durability.
● Large value of recycled waste fibres can be used as a value-added product to
enhance
● shear strength and load deformation. So waste tire cords can also be used.
● The effects of drainage and pore pressures on the effective strength of the fibre-
soil mixture and creep along the fibre-soil interface, are of particular interest.
● More research is needed for understanding the potential benefits and
limitations for more complex geotechnical structures.
