Introduction

Everyone can learn in several ways. One of


these ways is reading books. These books can help
everybody to be aware in society’s issues, gain new
knowledge academically, hones critical and analytical
skills, feeds your imagination, and even approaches
in living your life well.
New York Comprehensive Center (October
2011) stated that the more access that early learners
have to books and materials, along with the
increased access to literacy supports and
technological instruction that school libraries and
school librarians provide, the greater the likelihood
 is that they will develop into accomplished readers.

Rationale
Nowadays, students often learn through visual aids, and they often
forget the essence of books especially in their school library which can
help in their academic performance. With that, the researchers’ would
like to know and identify the effects of School Library to the study
behaviour of the students when they select to use libraries as their main
sources in school homework/projects rather using other mediums. Since
using online is a trend nowadays, the researchers would like to know if
library is more effective in academic performance rather using social
media in school purposes.

Statement of the Problem

The study identifies the possible effects of school library as source on


the studying behaviour of Students towards their academic learning.
Specifically, this study sought answers to the following questions:
1. What are the demographic profiles of the respondents?
1.1 Age
2. How can the students assess the effectiveness of school library as
sources on their studying behaviour of Student’s education in
terms of:
2.1 Usage
2.2 Reliability in different instrument
3. What is the perceived level of effectiveness among Education students
in their school library?

Theoretical/Conceptual Framework
Connectivity theory of learning emphasizes the role of social and
cultural context in how and where learning occurs. Learning does not simply
happen within an individual, but within and across the relations.
The theory is that when students are given the support they need while
learning something new; they stand a better chance of using that knowledge
independently.

Operational Framework
Based from the above-cited theoretical framework, the proponents of the study
have conceptualized their research as shown in the figure given below. This model
concerns about the independent variable which is the effects of school library on
study behaviour that can affect the school library as information sources; it
represented by the arrow that is connected with each other.

School Library as Sources
• Mairaj & Naseer (2013) discusses that Information and communication technologies (ICTs)
have changed the concept of library services. Now users have multiple options for
information seeking and prefer to use online information and services.
• Oloteo & Mabesa (2013) discuss that students are more encourage to visit the library
because cataloging and indexing are effective in finding their needed information.
• However, the University of Virginia discussed that there are limitations in gathering
information from the libraries such as archival materials and there are sources that
researchers cannot acquire.
Effects of School Library
• Seng (2013) affirmed library was substantial to their learning which help them enhance
and enrich their skills for their future career.
• Morrison, et.al. (2013) informed that school library is helpful not only to school academics
but also in other aspects of the students’ lives which can development their problem
solving skills, self- esteem, confidence, reflecting attitudes to learning etc. through learning
from different sources of school library, students reflect the essence of the contents in the
books.
• Boddunan (2017) also emphasizes that school libraries give a great help to give reliable
information for the students. Hence, library is an essential part of the student’s life. They
should take full advantages of the libraries available.

Methodology
The researchers apply Quantitative Non-Experimental Descriptive Correlational
Cross sectional approach to their study. With the help of this research design, the
researchers intend to identify the effects of school library to the student’s academic
performance.

Population
The researchers apply the formula of sample size method where the target
respondents are chosen. From a total of 715 Education students of Pamantasan ng
Cabuyao, the researchers came up with a sample size of 374 respondents. The
researchers select this approach because it is the best for the evaluation and
gathering of data that are useful in determining the results in the “Effects of School
Library on the Study Behavior and Academic Performance of Education students of
Pamantasan ng Cabuyao”.

Significance
The finding of this study may provide vital information regarding how the school
library affects the studying behavior of student’s education.
The following will be aided by the result of this study:
The Students. This study will influence the students to use the school
library as their main resources of their school papers. As well as emphasizing
the importance and relation of school library to their studies. It also gives
evidences that school libraries will help them to develop their studying
behavior and academic achievement.
The school librarian. Librarian will have the awareness towards the
possible effects of Library to their academic achievement and helps them
find approaches of assistance concerning to students. This study also serve
as their guide in collaborating the students to books.
The teachers. Research shows the promotion of using the school library
to their students. Encourage the teachers to help the students how to use
their school libraries.

Track Relevance

Although, the researchers’ topic seems irrelevant in their track, they see
that it also helps them in Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM).
Meanwhile, the researchers’ topic “The Effects of School Library to the study
behaviour and Academic Performance…” can be related to their track
because reading books as said earlier, improves analytical and critical skills to
the readers. Through this, ABM students will be aware in the positive effects
of school library it can give in their academic performance which is needed in
their subjects such as Accounting and Marketing.
