with the skills and knowledge to be able to create a viable business plan
◦ Back to the learning outcome….

What we do and how we do it – your unique selling point
– USP – VALUE PROPOSITION – page 4 of the template
◦ You need to be clear on what your business actually does. You and the people
reading your business plan (prospective investors and employees) should be
able to understand what you do and why that’s appealing to customers.
◦ Your overview will ideally include:
who your target customers are…
what you do…
how you do it…
why that is valuable to your customers….
how you’re different from other acupuncture/TCM/herbal clinic available to
customers.
Business Background – Page 5 of the template
◦ BUSINESS HISTORY
◦ Describe your journey that bought you to study TCM
◦ Describe what you have studied these past couple of years
◦ How have you developed your “UNIQU” interests in TCM
◦ Family members was sick
◦ Family history using TCM as primary healthcare
◦ Tired of WM Biomedical Science model of health
◦ Specialist topic area – fertility – diabetes – acne – gynaecology – internal medicine, beauty, preventive health care ……..
Our Goal – MISSION FOR YOUR CLINIC
BUSINESS
◦ Page 6 of the Business Plan Template on Moodle
◦ Our goal/mission
◦ Whether you’re starting up or are already in business, it’s good to be clear on your next big goal.
◦ This might be a goal for this year, for the next three years or even the next 10 years.
◦ The best goals or missions are specific, ambitious yet achievable and have a set timeframe.
◦ For example, in 1988 jeweller Michael Hill set himself a mission of having 70 shops in seven years. He achieved that goal.
Vision Boarding – for business planning
◦ Whether you’re starting up or are already in business, it’s good to be clear on your next big goal. This might be a goal for this
year, for the next three years or even the next 10 years
◦ When asked what are your goals?
◦ A useful tool I have developed for overcoming inaction in business plan writing
The 10 year
plan…oh no I
hear you say
It is sometimes difficult to
imagine or vision a short term
future goal …because just
saying “I will start my clinic”
will not meet the assessment
criteria!!!!
So creating a vison board is
your answer.
We start at the 10 year goal and
work backwards as a way to
move forward.
10 – 5 – 3 – 2 – 1 Year Vison
10 Year Vision
Luxury CM
Resort
I see myself as the owner of a
high-end lux Chinese Medicine
Resort and Retreat
My Clients are financially
secure, mature, married and
have a “need” to create
harmony and balance in their
lives through the application of
CM health maintenance
techniques and lifestyle choices
5 Year Vision
A large clinical
practice with 10
clinic rooms in 2
locations
My business still operates in
resort town Rotorua
I have now opened a second
clinic in Queenstown.
I have 10 employees at each
clinic and a dedicated clinic
manager in each clinic
3 Year Vision
A large clinical
practice with 10
clinic rooms in 1
location
My business still operates in Rotorua.
I have upgraded my commercial
premises as business has increased
with the local patients as well as the
MOU.
I have 10 employees at each clinic
and a dedicated clinic manager
2 Year Vision
Clinic established
in commercial
premises
After successfully operating my
business in Rotorua for 1 year I have
a steady stream of regular patients.
I have recently formed a MOU with a
major hotel chain in Rotorua that has
a degree of Chinese and Korean
guests which will be referred to my
clinic through the guest services
folder in each guest room.
I branch out and open a commercial
clinic.
1 Year Vision
My start home
based business
Having established that within 10
years I want to have a business
presence in Queenstown and
Rotorua I have decided that my
start-up business should be in
either of these locations.
After research of my business
location I have found that it will
be best if I establish my
reputation in the Rotorua
location.
Why?
AS YOU CAN PLAINLY SEE I
AM A BUSINESS PERSON
AND NOT A HEALTH-
PRACTITIONER!
Because having achieved my goals I actually have no time to use my CM skills and knowledge.
