1. Describe the organizational structure of BEC. What departmentalization
approach does the company use? What are the pros and cons of this
structure for BEC?

• At first company had six employees, who have studiedpsychology and to get
into minds of an employee and provide counselling and consulting services.
• Eventually demand increased and the company came up with matrix structure
in which each individual did multiple tasks. Also sometimes employees
worked on 10 projects at same time. This way BEC dealt with the rise in the
market demand with low human resource.
• Under Matrix structure, managers assigned work to various employees
because, the market offered low number of qualified staff for the company.
• Latter in 2006, change in the matrix system to project management system-
two project manager- powers in line with departmental managers.
• The project managers and department managers assigned task to the
functional managers
• This a tussle in the dissemination. Led to the over lapping and the performance
got impacted.
• the project manager did not assign the work to dept. manager due to equal
peered level.
• This led to ineffective handling of task
• Form the beginning BEC had open culture in the organization. Helped in open
door policy
   2. What causes the conflict between the project managers and the other
employees?

• Conflict raised because

department managers and the project managers
had same powers to disseminate work to the functional managers.
• Thus commands from both the managers lead to confusion in employees
mind on which task to do first and led to ineffective handling of task.
• Also there was no clearly definedroles and responsibility. All employees
worked on multiple task at same time in different roles.
 3.   How would you design a better structure and hence responsibility and authority of project
managers at BEC?

• Suggested way of handling is through Project Management system and

process in the right way
• Each individual employee is good at some task or the other and this
system ensured that each employee is utilizing its strength to the best
capacity.
• This structure is also very flexible as it can be adjusted during the peak
season.
• This will also help in increase in the overall productivity of the
organization
 4.   What challenges would rapid growth of BEC in future throw up? How should BEC tackle them?

• Attract talent easily

• Qualified employees.
• Difficult to tackle the situation when the demand overshoots beyond the
capacity
