Project Id-ET203 is a final year project focused on designing a frequency synthesizer circuit. The project is being undertaken by four students under the guidance of Prof. Ashish Shekhar. A frequency synthesizer generates multiple frequencies from a single reference frequency using techniques like frequency multiplication, division, mixing, and phase-locked loops. The stability of a synthesizer depends on its accurate crystal oscillator reference frequency. The project will design a frequency synthesizer circuit using direct and indirect digital synthesis as well as analyze its frequency domain response, time domain response, and key parameters. Frequency synthesizers allow generating desired frequencies from a single oscillator and enable frequency mixing applications.

A frequency synthesizer may use the techniques of frequency multiplication, frequency division, direct digital synthesis, frequency mixing, and phase-locked loops to generate its frequencies. The stability of synthesizers depends basically on their reference frequency and hence frequency synthesizer uses accurate reference frequency provided by crystal oscillators. Frequency mixing is possible like frequency multiplication and division. RF level synthesizer provide high levels of performance in terms of stability , accuracy and programmability.
