GRUP 8
CORAL REEFS 2

Coral reef is a community of organisms that live in the waters

and in the form of limestone that is strong enough to
withstand
03 the waves of the sea.

Indonesia is home to around 1/8 of the world's coral reefs (Cesar

1997) and is a country that is rich in diversity of aquatic biota
compared to other Southeast Asian countries.
SEE 3

Apart from climate change factors, damage

to coral reefs occurs because fishing
activities in Indonesia take place in a
destructive way (destructive)
Bleaching in Indonesia has happened four
times. And, the biggest impact occurred in
2016. With current conditions, the impact of
climate change will potentially accelerate
bleaching on corals

HOW
5
IMPACT

1. The impact of damage to these coral reefs eventually also returns to the
economic losses of society. In Indonesia alone, the impact of damage to
coral reefs in economic terms is said to reach 46 million dollars in just
over 4 years.

2. Loss of fish breeding grounds

Fish in the sea and other animals such as sea turtles, shellfish, squid,
starfish and sea cucumbers make use of coral reefs as laying eggs and
develop for newly hatched animals. Coral reefs have lots of space where
fish and other small animals can hide from prey. So this place is an ideal
breeding ground for marine animals.

SPIRITUAL

Genesis 2 : 6 – 7
“Protect the tree in the middle of the Garden of Eden”.Humans have been given the responsibility to "protect", thus the aspect
of conservation has been outlined by God from the beginning. This shows that the utilization of all available natural resources must be
done without damage
8
ACT
1. One of them is by caring for and protecting the coastal
ecosystem around us so that it still produces good and beneficial
marine products for the community.

2. Muhammad Yusuf from the Coral Reef Concerned Community,

Ujung Genteng said that the damage to coral reefs in his area
was of concern. That's why he invited all parties who visited the
end of the tile to take care of environmental issues in the region.
CONCLUSION
9

1. Coral reefs are very sensitive to environmental influences, both physically

and chemically. Disturbances on coral reefs will hinder the development of
coral reefs as a whole.
2. Catching fish with explosives, poisonous materials, and various kinds of
fishing gear that can damage and endanger coral reef colonies. The
number of fishermen who still use illegal methods to get a lot of fish from
the sea is a strong reason for the destruction of the types of coral reefs that
exist.
