STATE BANK OF INDIA

WHAT IS SBI ?

 SBI is the largest state - owned banking and


financial services company in India ,by almost every
parameter ,revenue ,profits ,assets ,market
capitalisation ,etc.
 SBI provides the range of banking products through
its vast network of branches in india and overseas,
including products aimed at NRIs.
 The state bank of india is the 10th most reputed
company in the world according to forbes.
 SBI is the largest of the big four banks of india,
along with ICICI bank, Punjab national bank and
Canara bank –its main competitors.
HISTORY
 The roots of the SBI rest in the first decade of
19th century, when the Bank of Calcutta, later
renamed in the Bank of Bengal, was established
on 2nd june 1806. The bank of Bengal and two
other presidency banks, namely., the Bank of
Bombay, and The Bank of Madras was
incorporated.
 All three presidency banks were incorporated as
JOINT STOCK COMPANIES, and were the
result of the royal chaters.
 In 1959 the govt. passed the SBI act,
enabling the SBI to take over eight former
state-associates banks as its subsidiaries .
 On 13th sep 2008, State bank of Saurashtra,
one of its associate banks, merged with SBI.
 The presidency bank amalgamated on 27th
jan 1921,and the recognized banking entity
took as its name IMPERIAL BANK OF INDIA.
Associate banks
I. SBI has five associate banks that with SBI
constitute the state bank group .
II. All uses the same logo of a blue keyhole
and all the associates banks use the “state
bank of” name followed by the regional
head quaters’ name.
III. The seven bank that became the associate
banks belonged to princely states until the
govt. nationalised them between oct,1959
and may,1960.

STATE BANK OF BIKANER AND
JAIPUR
 State bank of bikaner and jaipur is one of the reputed
bank of rajasthan.
 It was established in 1963,when the erstwhile state
bank of jaipur (founded in 1943) and state bank of
bikaner(founded in 1944) were amalgamated.
 Headquatered in rajasthan, the bank is nationalized
,with its branches located at all the important centers in
india.
 SBBJ has 860 branches out of which, 849 are business
branches ,eight are service branches ,2 are asset
recovery branches and the rest 1 is treasury branches.
 the bank boasts of having as many as 453
ATMs throughout india, all of them being the
part of over 10,000 ATMs of state bank group.
 Apart from ATMs facility, SBBJ also provides the
option of internet banking, which is extended to
all its branches for retail customers.
 To improve the efficiency of operations and to
satisfy customers in a better way, SBBJ has
started BUSINESS PROCESS
REENGINEERING (BPS) initiatives.
 The bank business has crossed the mark of
Rs.59,427 crores, with a net profit of Rs.315.00
crores at the end of march 2008.
STATE BANK OF MYSORE
 It was established in the year 1913 as the
bank of mysore ltd.
 Under the patronage of the erstwhile govt. of
mysore.
 In 1960, the bank became an associate of
SBI.
 SBI holds 92.33% of shares .
 As an associate bank, the state bank of
mysore has a team of employees with a mgt.
 This bank has an excess of 650 branches and
10,200 employees .
 This bank has regional offices in bengaluru,
bellary, kolar, mysore, mangalore,
mandya,chennai, combatore, hyderbad,
mumbai, and newdelhi.
 The bank turnover in the yr 08-09 was around
US$ 10 billion and profit about US$ 65 million.

STATE BANK OF INDORE
 STATE BANK OF INDORE is the govt –
owned indian bank and a subsidary of SBI.
 SBI currently holds 98.05% stake in indore
bank, which is the smallest of SBI’s six
associates bank.
 Indore bank’s main branch and headquater is
in the city of indore, located on the malwa
pleatue just north of the vidhaya range.
 Presently, the bank has over 470 branches in
more than 300 cities and town .
 In march, 2009 the business turnover of state
bank of indore has crossed rs.50000cr.
 In 1960 the state bank of indore became a
subsidary of SBI.
 IN 1962, state bank of indore acquired the
bank of dewas and has been first bank in
dewas district .
 In 1965, state bank of indore acquired dewas
senior bank, which has been incorporated in
1941.
 In 1971, state bank indore was up-graded to
class ‘A’ category bank.
STATE BANK OF
TRAVANCORE
 State bank of travancore, is the subsidiary of
the state bank group and also has private
share holder.
 It was sponsored by the former princely state
of travancore, kerela.
 It is now one of the most prominent
nationalized banks of india.
 SBT continues to provide dedicated services
to its customers, since 60 yr of its
establishment.
 The total business of SBT, recorded is
Rs.66644cr and its NRI business of Rs
8755cr.
 SBT marks its national presence in india, with
a network of its 712 branches spread over 16
states of the country, out of which 580
branches are located in kerela.
 The bank boasts of providing easy access to
money to its customers through its 389 ATMs
through out the country, with the largest ATM
network in its home state .
STATE BANK OF PATIALA
 An associate bank of the state bank of india, state
bank of patiala (SBP) was established in 1917 by
late his highness Bhupinder Singh, the maharaja
of erstwhile patiala state.
 SBP started its operations from one branch called
‘CHOWK FORT’, in patiala.
 It was set up for the purpose of promoting the
growth of agriculture, trade and industry.
 It is the prominent bank of india .
 Another milestone in the history of SBP was the
computerization of all its branches on 24th jan
2003.
 With this development, the bank became
india’s first fully computerized public sector
banks.
 SBP is networked by its 830 service outlet .
 There are as many as 750 branches of SBP,
spread across the major cities of india, out of
which, the majority of branches are located in
its home state, haryana, himachal pradesh,
rajasthan, jammu and kashmir, delhi and
chandigarh.
 The bank provide easy access to money to its
customers through its ATMs spread over 16
states of india.
STATE BANK OF
SAURASHTRA
 State bank of saurashtra was a government -
owned bank in india.
 It was one of the seven associates banks of the
SBI, with which it merged on 13th aug 2008 .
 At the time of the merger, the bank had a
network of 423 branches spread over 15 states
and the union territory of the Daman and Diu .
 After the establishment of saurashtra state in
1948, there was a parallel amalgamation of
some banks .
 The bhavnagar darbar bank became the
state bank of saurashtra, under the
saurashtra state bank ordinance,1950,and
the four darbar banks- rajkot state bank,
porbandar state bank, palitana darbar bank
and vadia state bank-were merged with it
with effect from 1st july, 1950 as its branches.
 At the close of 1950 the bank had only 9
branches and deposits of 7 crores.
 At the same time, the state bank of india
took over the SBS, along with the other major
state owned banks,1950.
 By this time, the number of branches had
increased to 24, with aggregate deposits of
Rs.13.39crores, total advance of
Rs.7.93crores,and an investment portfolio
of Rs.8.04crores .
 It has 866 employees .
