History of Rock n Roll

- The Rock and Roll genre developed from

inspiration from both Rhythm n Blues and
Country genres.
- These genres sprung from the african
spiritual music coming from the african
slaves in the south.
- Popular artist included Big Joe Turner, Elvis
Presley, and Willie Mae Thornton.
Rock n Roll inspired Fashion

- Poodle skirts started with

actress and singer Juli
Lynne Charlot who cut a
circle out of felt allowing
her to have a skirt without
any seams.
- She eventually started a
company and would add a
picture or design to the
skirts and the poodle
design was a hit.
Shoes

- Black and white saddle shoes

were popular for dancing and
school uniforms because they
were comfortable and easy to slip
on.
- They could be both casual and
dressy.
Greasers

- Rock n Roll inspired teens to reject

some societal norms.
- Some of these teens were called
Greasers.
- They typically would wear jeans,
white tees,and leather jackets.
