Background of Study
• Literature nowadays has been a tool to express someone’s
feeling into a beautiful play of words, such as figurative
language, or connotative meaning shown in a literary
work. It is important to tell about the definition of
literature, so that either the writer or the readers can easily
understand about literature itself. R.J Rees (1973:9)
• Movies are mostly adapted from real story in the world
and the other are adapted from books or novels. Most
people use movies for entertainment, criticism,
advertisement, and education. Every movie has message
conveyed toward the audience. Movies will give us a
message such as moral, motivation, faith, science, etc.
Objective of the study :

1.To explain moral values reflected in “wonder” movie.

2.To explain the effect of characters actions to their relationship.


Research methodology
• Source of the data : The data is taken from in wonder movie and the
utterances of characters reflecting moral value.
• Data gathering :
1. Watching the movie for several times
2. Reading the script or subtitles
3. Selecting the parts of the movie which are containing moral value in it.
4. Categorizing the utterances reflecting moral value from the utterances.
5. Identifying the moral values in the movie.
• Technique of Data Analysis :
1. Unitizing; selecting the data which are going to be analyzed.
2. Sampling; determine the sample or movie to be analyzed.
3. Theory; analyzed interpret conclude.
Biography
• Director’s Biography :
Stephen Chbosky (/ʃəˈbɒski/; born January 25, 1970) is an American
novelist, screenwriter, and film director. Chbosky directed the 2017
film Wonder, co-written by Chbosky, Jack Thorne, and Steve Conrad
and based on the 2012 novel of the same name by R. J. Palacio. The
film starred Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, and Jacob Tremblay, and
was released on November 17, 2017.
• Writer’s Biography
R. J. Palacio lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband, two sons and
two dogs (Bear and Beau). Her debut novel, Wonder, has been on
the New York Times bestseller list since March, 2012, and has sold
over 5 million copies worldwide. The book’s message of kindness
has inspired the Choose Kind movement, and has been embraced
by readers, young and old, around the world.
Conclusion
• Wonder is a family film that supports one another. From this film you can
learn about effect to their relationship are friendship, dating, full of love.
• Friendship often presents several problems, but true friendship can
overcome those problems and even grow together because of it
Friendship is not formed automatically but requires a long process.
Friendship is characterized by a variety of experiences of joy and sorrow,
being entertained - hurt, cared for - disappointed, heard - ignored,
assisted - rejected, but none of this has ever been intentionally done with
the intention of hatred. A friend will not hide mistakes to avoid disputes,
because of his love he dares to rebuke him.
• Moral is very important for all people in the world. Moral values should be
taught to the children in early period. Family is the first place for children
to grow up. People must be sure and be optimistic in enduring our life. It’s
the main things if someone want the dream comes true.
