WHAT IS GLOBAL MIGRATION?
Migration is the movement of people from one place to
another.

Migration can be within a country or between countries.

Most migration is from developing countries to developed


ones.
TYPES OF MIGRATION

Internal Migration
It refers to people moving from one area to another within one country.

International migration
It is the people who cross border of one country to another.
KEY TERMS RELATED TO MIGRATION
Emigrant
It is a person who leaves own country to settle permanently in another.

Immigrant
It is a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.

Immigration
It is a process through which individuals become permanent residents
or citizens of another country.
Temporary labor migrants
A temporary worker generally enters a country for a fixed-time period for
a particular occupation or employer, must leave when the period expires.

Return Migration
It is a form of forced migration. Also it is usually takes on the form of
deportation.
 
Illegal immigration
It is migration of people into a country in violation of the immigration
laws of that country, or the continued residence without the legal right to
live in that country.
Asylum seeker
It is an immigrant who has been forcibly displaced and might have fled
their home country because of war or other factors harming them or
their family.

Refugee
It is a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to
escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.

 Family union/reunification migration


The process of bringing together family members, particularly children,
spouses and elderly dependents
Highly skilled & business migrants
This means a high emigration rate of highly educated people to other,
more developed countries.

Remittance
It is a payment of money that is transferred to another party.

Xenophobia
This means a strong feeling of dislike, hatred or fear of people from
other countries. It is connected to the belief that one’s own group or
culture is superior to others. It often results in acts of discrimination
against others.
