INTRODUCTION
 Ethics includes personal behaviour and issues of
character. e.g kindness, tolerance,generosity.

It derived from the GREEK word “ETHOS


meaning custom or character. It defined by
bernard harding “it comprises distinction
attitudes, which characterise the cultural outlook
of professional group. It distinction between
right and wrong based on a body knowledge.
PURPOSES
 Provide general guidelines.
 It helps to destinguish between right and
wrong.
 Enables a correct decision and a uniform
decision within the groups.
 Helps to protect rights of individuals, families,
and community, nuures.

 RESPECT : level for understanding of another
person or empathy and reducing exploitation .

 Activity seeking benefits,promotion of good.
 The duty to do balance between benefits and
harm.
 The health care provider decides what is best
for the client and attempt to encourage the
clients to act against his or her own choices.
CONFIDENTIALITY

Confidentiality relates to the concept of privacy


Information obtained from an individual will not
be disclosed to another unless it will benefit the
person or there is a direct threat to the social
good.
DOUBLE EFFECT
 This is a principle that may morally justify
some actions that produce both good and evil
effects.
FIDELITY

 Fidelity is promise keeping the duty to be


faithful to one's commitments. It includes both
explicit and implicit promises to another
person
JUSTICE
 Each person has equal rights to the liberty
available to everyone.
NONMALEFICENCE
 This is the duty not to inflict harm as well as to
prevent and remove harm. Nonmaleficence
may be included within the principle of
beneficence, in which case nonmaleficence
would be more binding.
PATERNALISM
Paternalism is the intentional limitation of
another's autonomy. Justified by an appeal to
beneficence or the welfare or needs of another
RESPECT FOR PERSONS

 Respect for person is frequently used


synonymously with autonomy, However, it
goes beyond accepting the notion or attitude
that people have autonomous choice to treating
others in such a way that enables them to make
the choice.
SANCTITY OF LIFE

 This is the perspective that life is the highest


good. Therefore, all forms of life, including
mere biologic existence, should take
precedence over external criteria for judging
quality of life.
  
VERACITY
 The obligation to tell the truth.
INTERNATIONAL CODE OF NURSING
ETHICS
 The fundamental responsibility of the nurse is
four fold that is :
- to promote health
- to prevent illness
- to restore health
- to alleviate sufferings.
Code of Ethics
 A code of ethics is a set of ethical principles
that are accepted by all members of a
profession.

 Ethics refers to the expected standards of


behaviour of a particular group. these
standards are described in the groups’ code of
professional conduct. Nurses are expected to
maintain certain ethical standards in their
nursing practice.

 The nurse sustain a co-operative relationship
with co-worker in nursing and other fields.
 The nurse takes appropriate action to
safeguard individuals, families and
communities when their health is endangered
by a coworker or any other person.
NURSE AND SOCIETY
 A nurse should participate and share
responsibilities with other citizens and other
health professionals in promoting effects to
meet the health needs of public
local,state,national,and international.
 She could recognize the perform the duties of
citizenship and be well aware of laws and
regulations which affect the practice of
medicine and nursing.
