Past
Continuous

The only difference between past continuous
and present continuous is the verbal tense,
and what the speaker wants to express.

Other use of Present continuous
Present continuous is also used to refer actions that are
going to happen in the future. The complement of the
sentences will determine if the action is happening in this
moment or later in the future.

 I’m working on Saturday.


 She’s playing rugby tomorrow.
 You’re skating later.

Other use of Past continuous
Past continuous can be combined with Simple Past to
express that an action was happening but it was
interrupted by another action.

Joseph was working when his boss called him.


Lauren and Shawn were studying when the lights
went off.

Other use of Past continuous
Past continuous can be combined with more past
continuous to express that two actions were
happening at the same time.

Hunter was watching the news while I was


cooking.
Vince was speaking to his father while his mom
was singing.
