Lesson 3:
Strength and Endurance Tests
Physical fitness

 it is considered a measure of a body’s ability to function


efficiently and effectively in work and in leisure activities,
to be healthy, to resists hypokinetic diseases and to meet
emergency situations.
 A child’s fitness is measured in his or her ability to fight
diseases, maintaining good health, and enjoy the activities
he or she does.
 Children must be encourage to exercise at least 30 to 60
minutes daily.
 To determine a child’s strength and endurance, he or she
should be able to do exercises that build the major muscles
in his or her body namely the biceps and the tricepts of the
upper arm and the quadriceps and hamstrings of the thighs.
Muscular Strength and Endurance

 Muscular strength and endurance are interrelated but the two have a basic
difference.
 Muscular strength is the ability to exert maximum force against resistance.
 Muscular endurance ( also called localize muscular endurance) is the ability of
the muscle to exert submaximal force repeatedly over a period of time.
 Muscular endurance depends to a large extent on muscular strength and to a
lesser extent cardiorespiratory endurance.
 Keeping this concepts in mind, strength tests and training program have been
designed to measure and develop absolute muscular strength, muscular
endurance or a combination of two.
Why strength and endurance important?

 Adequate levels of strength enhance a person’s health and well-being throughout


life.
 Strength is crucial for top performance in daily activities such as sitting, walking,
running, lifting and carrying objects, doing housework and even enjoying
recreational activities.
 Strength is also valuable in improving personal appearance and self-image,
developing sport skills and meeting certain emergencies in life in which strength
is necessary to cope effectively.
 As strength improves, so does the ability to move about the capacity for
independent living, and life enjoyment during the golden year.
