Solving problems involving
GCF and LCM
Pair of Numbers GCF LCM
1. 24 and 90
2. 17 and 85
3. 27 and 32
4. 36 and 45
5. 24 and 56
Example 1
Neo will plant 54 flower seedlings
and 36 vegetable seedlings. He would
like to plant the seedlings in rows, in a
way that each row will have the same
number of seedlings of one type only.
What is the greatest number of
seedlings Neo can plant in each row?
Prime factorization of 54: 2 x 3x3x3
Prime factorization of 36: 2 x 2 x 3 x 3

So, 2 x 3 x 3 = 18
Example 2
Ben exercises every 12
days. Isabel exercises every
8 days. Ben and Isabel both
exercised today. After how
many days will they get to
exercise together again?
12 = 2 x 2 x3
8 =2x2x2

So, 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 24
Example 3
Mrs. Yu has 120 crayons and 30
pieces of paper to give to her
pupils. What is the largest
number of pupils she can have in
her class so that each pupil gets
equal number of crayons and
equal number of pieces of paper?
120 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 5
30 = 2 x 3x5

So, 2 x 3 x 5 = 30
Example 4
A radio DJ gave away a meal
coupon for every 50th caller and a
concert ticket for every 75th
caller. How many more callers
must get through before a caller
can receive both meal coupon
and concert ticket?
50 = 2 x 5 x 5
75 = 3 x 5 x 5

So, 2 x 3 x 5 x 5 = 150
