QUARTER 2 WEEK 3

SOLVING REAL-LIFE
PROBLEMS INVOLVING
GCF AND LCM OF TWO
GIVEN NUMBERS
In your previous lesson, you
experienced solving a word problem
using the 4-step plan.

This time, you will continue solving a

word problem to develop your critical
thinking skills.
After going through the lesson, you are
expected to apply your learning’s in
solving real-life word problems
involving GCF and LCM of the given
numbers.
Example:
There are two bells in the school. The bell 1
is for the Grade 1 to 3 while the bell 2 is for the
Grade 4 to 6. The bell 1 and 2 are rung, once
every 30 minutes and the other bell or bell 2 at
every 50 minutes. If they are rung together at
7:00 A.M., at what time they will rung together
for their recess.

or bell 2 at every 50 minutes. If they are rung together at 7:00 A.M., at what time they will

Understand:
1. What is asked in the problem?
Time that the bell rung together.
2. What are given?
Bell 1 rung after 30 minutes
Bell 2 rung every 50 minutes
Plan:
3. By finding the LCM.
4. It can be thru listing method:
5. Solve:

30 = 30, 60, 90, 120, 150

50 = 50, 100, 150,
It can be thru prime factorization:

30 50
2 x 15 2 x 25
2 3x5 2 5x5
30 = 2 x 3 x 5
50 = 2 x5x5
=2x3x5x5
= 150
It can be thru a model or illustration:
10 20 40 50 70 80 100 110 130 140
0 30 60 90 120 150

7:00 A.M Bell 1 rung every 30 minutes ____ A.M

Bell 2 rung every 50 minutes
The LCM of 30 and 50 is 150, therefore the 2
bells rung together after 150 minutes
150 minutes = 2 hours and 30 minutes since 1 hour is
equal to 60 minutes
7:00 a.m. plus 2 hours and 30 minutes equals 9:30
a.m.
Check:
9:30 a.m. - 7:00 a.m. = 150 minutes
WEEK 3

LEARNING
TASK
Remember: Use the 4 –step plan.
Example:
Learning Task 1: Solve the following problem using
the 4 – step plan. Use the concept of GCF.

Reina has 40 pieces of bananas, 48 pieces of

atis and 36 pieces of chicos, She wants to put them
equally in the plastic bag. How many possible
number of each fruit will be placed in the plastic
bag?
Example: Reina has 40 pieces of bananas, 48 pieces of atis and 36 pieces
of chicos, She wants to put them equally in the plastic bag. How many
possible number of each fruit will be placed in the plastic bag?

Understand:
1. What is asked in the problem?
Possible number of fruit in each
plastic bag.
2. What are given?
40 pcs of banana, 48 pcs of atis and 36
pcs of chico
Plan:
3. By finding the GCF.
4. Use prime factorization:
5. Solve:
40 48 36
2 x 20 2 x 24 2 x 18
2 2 x 10 2 2 x 12 2 2x9
2 2 2x5 2 2 2x6 2 2 3x3
2 2 2 2x3
40 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 5
48 = 2 x 2 x 2 x2x3 GCF = 4
36 = 2 x 2 x x3x3
The possible number of each fruit will be
placed in the plastic bag is 4.

Check:
5. If you divide 4 to 40, 48 and 36,
therewill be no remainder.
