Instructions:
• Attempt all the questions.
• Write the answers in the space provided.

Note to the teacher: All text and images in brackets and italics is additional information to
help support understanding of the answer. Please do not evaluate the answer based on this.

Solve the following questions. (4 × 1 = 4 marks)

1) Convert the given weights to the units mentioned.

(a) 18000 g = 18 kg
(So, 18000 g = 18000 ÷ 1000
= 18 kg.)

(b) 23 kg = 23000 g
(So, 23 kg = 23 × 1000
= 23000 g)
Give 0.5 marks for each correctly filled blank.

2) Convert the given volumes to the units mentioned.

(a) 64 L = 64000 ml
(So, 64 L = 64 × 1000
= 64000 ml)

(b) 25000 ml = 25 L
(So, 25000 ml = 25000 ÷ 1000

= 25 L)

Give 0.5 marks for each correctly filled blank.

Class 5 – Math – Unit 7 Assessment – AK – 1

3) Compare the lengths by putting >, <, or = in the blank below.

400 m > 4000 cm

(So, 400 m = 400 × 100 cm

= 40000 cm
40000 cm > 4000 cm
∴ 400 m > 4000 cm)
Give 1 mark for the correctly filled blank.

4) 540 min + 300 min = 14 h

(540 min + 300 min = 840 min

840 min = 840 ÷ 60
= 14 h
So, 540 min + 300 min = 14 h)
Give 1 mark for the correctly filled blank.

Solve the following questions. (4 × 2 = 8 marks)

5) A shopkeeper had 40 kg of wheat in stock. He sold 25600 g of it. How much wheat is
left with him?

Total quantity of wheat in stock = 40 kg

= 40 × 1000 g [∵ 1 kg = 1000 g]
= 40000 g (1 mark)
Quantity of wheat sold = 25600 g
Quantity of wheat left with shopkeeper = 40000 g − 25600 g
= 14400 g (1 mark)
Therefore, the quantity of wheat left with the shopkeeper is 14400 g.

6) Roma runs 6 km every day. How much distance does she cover in a week?

Distance that Roma covers every day = 6 km

Number of days in a week = 7

Class 5 – Math – Unit 7 Assessment – AK – 2

Distance that Roma covers in a week = 7 × 6 km (1 mark)
= 42 km (1 mark)
Therefore, the distance covered by Roma in a week is 42 km.

7) Anup has a full jar of oil. He has 7 cups. He pours 380 ml of oil into each cup. Now he
is left with 340 ml of oil in the jar. What is the volume of the jar?

Total amount of oil poured out = Number of cups × Volume poured into each cup

= 7 × 380 ml (0.5 marks)

= 2660 ml (0.5 marks)

Total volume of the jar = Total amount of oil poured out + Volume left in the Jar

= 2660 ml + 340 ml (0.5 marks)

= 3000 ml (0.5 marks)

Therefore, the volume of the jar is 3000 ml.

8) Monal watched a 2 h 35 min long movie. She had taken a 10 min break in between.
The movie ended at quarter to 6. At what time did Monal start watching the movie?

Time before = _________

Time after = quarter to 6

= 5:45 = 5 h 45 min

Time in between = Duration of movie + duration of break

= 2 h 35 min + 10 min (0.5 marks)

= 2 h 45 min (0.5 marks)

Time before = Time after – Time in between

= 5 h 45 min – 2 h 45 min (0.5 marks)

=3h

= 3:00 (0.5 marks)

∴ The time at which Monal started watching movie is 3:00.

Solve the following questions. (2 × 4 = 8 marks)

9) (a) Convert time into the units mentioned below.

(i) 32 min = 1920 s

(32 min = 32 × 60 s = 1920 s)

(ii) 2880 s = 48 min

(2880 s = 2880 ÷ 60 min = 48 min)

Give 1 mark for each correctly filled blank.

b) Paul starts making a toy house using cardboard at 3:10. He takes 2 h 10 min to
finish making the toy. At what time does Paul complete the work?

The start time is 3:10.

Time taken = 2 h 10 min

Number of hours = 2 h

Number of minutes = 10 min

(Move the hour hand by 2 h in the clockwise direction.

Move the minute hand by 10 min in the clockwise direction.)

 (1 mark)

The time will be 5:20. (1 mark)

Paul completes the work at 5:20.

10) A carton is packed with 15 boxes. Each box has 8 balls. The weight of each ball is 50 g.
What is the weight of the carton in kg?

Number of boxes in a carton = 15

Number of balls in each box = 8

Number of balls in the carton = 15 × 8 = 120 (1 mark)

Weight of each ball = 50 g

Weight of the carton = Weight of 120 balls (1 mark)

= 120 × 50 g

= 6000 g (1 mark)

= 6000 ÷ 1000 kg

= 6 kg (1 mark)

Therefore, the weight of carton is 6 kg.
