Introduction to Packet

Tracer
Introduction

Packet Tracer is a cross-platform visual simulation tool designed by

Cisco Systems that allows users to create network topologies and
imitate modern computer networks. The software allows users to
simulate the configuration of Cisco routers and switches using a
simulated command line interface.
It allows you to model complex systems without the need for
dedicated equipment.
Cisco packet tracer

• Cisco Packet Tracer is an innovative network simulation and visualization

tool.
• With Packet Tracer we can choose to build a network from scratch, use a pre-
built sample network
•  Packet Tracer allows we to easily explore how data traverses on network.
Creating PDU’s

Packet Tracer provides a Simulation mode that allows you to create and capture
PDUs to check several functions within your network, such as:
• Basic Connectivity – Can all devices communicate with each other?
• Security – Are access lists functioning as designed?
• Applications and Services – Are applications and services such as DNS,
HTTP, and FTP functioning as designed?
Iot Devices

IoT is a connection of networked sensors, actuators, and smart devices that

collect and share data.  Packet Tracer 7.3.0 contains many new features to
support the IoT. This includes the addition of IoT devices that can be configured
to react to certain environmental values such as sun, wind, rain, and humidity.

to connect and control smart devices using either a Home Gateway device or a
remote registration server.
• Connecting two different devices we use ethernet net cable
• Same devices ethernet cross- over cable
• Tow devices are reachable or not
• Assign ip address of both end devices
• Hub works at the physical layer of the OSI model
• Used to set up LAN
• Has multiple ports
• Start topology
• When a packet arrives at one port it is copied to the other ports so that all
the segments of the LAN can see all packets
• A switch is a networking hard ware that connects devices on a computer network to
establish a local area network.
• Unlike hub , switch has memory
• Stores Mac Address table
• Layer 2 device for setting up LAN
• Cli
• En
routher

• Connect tow or more different LANs

• It is a layer 3 devices
• Stores routing table
