CELL DIVISION

KEY TERMS:
 CHROMOSOMES - it is a double rod, X-shaped structure

 CHROMATID- 1/2 of the structure of a chomosome

 CENTROMERE- it is the center part of the chromosomes

 GAMETES- refers to the sperm and egg cells

 CELL CYCLE- series of events that take place in a cell
leading to its division

 MITOSIS - type of cellular reproduction that results in the

formation of two identical diploid cells

 MEIOSIS - type of cellular reproduction that results in the

formation of four haploid cells
 CYTOKINESIS- cytoplasm of a single cell is divided to
form two daughter cells.

 SPINDLE FIBER- fiber-like structure that pulls or separates

the chromosomes into the daughter cells during cell division.

 CENTRIOLE- structures that form during the cell cycle

responsible for the formation of spindle fibers.
 CROSSING-OVER- sister chromatids exchange genetic
material during Prophase I in meiosis.
