The Background of The Study
• Teaching English in Senior High School in Indonesia is
one of the main focuses in English teaching.
• Through speaking, the students express their feelings
and desires to other people who have ability in
speaking will be better in receiving information.
• Drama performance extremely refers to speaking.
• In this case, the researcher hopes that drama
performance can improve students’ English ability
especially in speaking.
The Problem of the Research
• Does Drama Performance improve the
students’ speaking ability?
• Does Drama Performance improve the
students’ speaking ability in virtual class?
• What way of teaching speaking is more
significance? Meeting class or virtual class
The Objective of the Study
• To find out the effect of Drama Performance in
the students’ speaking ability in meeting class.
• To find out the effect of Drama Performance in
the students’ speaking ability in virtual class.
• To find out way of teaching speaking is more
significance, whether meeting class or virtual
class in teaching Drama Performance in
improving the students’ speaking ability.
The Scope of the Study
• This study is focuse on an analysis of
improving students’ speaking ability in virtual
class through drama performance at the
second grades of SMKN 2 Panyabungan
• The writer analyzes the students’ performance
in the role playing of a drama. There are 30
that will be performed in virtual class.
The Significances of Study
Theoretically:
• The result of the research could become a new perspective in teaching
speaking
• The result of the research could become a new model in teaching speaking
in virtual class
• The result of the research could become a horizon in the research of virtual
class strategies.
Pratically:
• For the English teacher as one of the strategies when teaching speaking.
• It can help students who have problem in speaking and more enjoyable in
learning English.
• As a comparison for those who wants to conduct further in depth research
of teaching speaking.

Speaking is an interactive process of constructing meaning
which is comparised of producing and receiving information.
• The Nature of Speaking
Speaking is fundamental of human communication.
• The communication purpose for the speakers could be:
1. They want to say something.
2. They have some communicative purpose; speakers say something
because they want something to happen as a result of what they say.
3. They select from their language store. Speakers have an inventive
capacity to create new sentences.

Virtual Learning
• Virtual learning is a learning experience that is enhanced through
utilizing computers and/or the internet both outside and inside the
facilities of the educational organization.

• Disadvantages of virtual learning :

Research Methodology
• This is a Class Action research, the writer will
treat and try to improve students’ speaking
skill by using drama performance, and also to
examine the way of theaching by virtual
meeting and by meeting class.
