PROJECT REGARDING

NETWORKING
WHAT IS NETWORKING?
A computer network is a group of computer systems and other computing hardware devices that are linked together through communication channels to facilitate communication and resource-sharing among a wide range of users.
MAIN PURPOSE OF NETWORKING
 TO COMMUNICATE,
 TO SHARE DATA OR INFORMATION,
 TO SHARE RESOURCES.
TYPES OF NETWORKING:
PERSONAL AREA NETWORK(PAN): It is a
connection between only two computers.
LOCAL AREA NETWORK(LAN): It is a group of
connected computers confined to one building or site.
METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK(MAN):
It is a network designed for a Town or City.
 WIDE AREA NETWORK(WAN): It is the largest
computer network that extends over a large geographical
distance.
WHAT IS TOPOLOGY?
Networks are physically represented as a topology. Topology
is the way in which computers or network hardware are
arranged in a particular manner.
There are number of common topologies, today we mostly
focus on these four:
 Bus Topology: In this, each computer device is connected
to a single cable. This is also referred to as the backbone
cable.
 Star Topology: All devices are connected to a central
device which is known as Switch. This is mostly used in
LAN networks.
 RING TOPOLOGY: It is a computer network
configuration where the devices are connected to each
other in a circular shape. Each packet is sent around the
ring until it reaches it’s final destination. In this, all traffic
flows in one direction, that means, packets can’t collide.
But it is slower than others, as data has to pass throughout
each device.
 MESH TOPOLOGY: In mesh, all the devices are
connected to each other. They also have additional links to
improve performance and to lower the risk of damage to
the network. This network can withstand a lot of data,
simultaneously. It is best suitable for WAN devices.
WHAT IS THE NEED OF NETWORKING?
Computer networks help users on the network to share the
resources and in communication. Can you imagine a world
now without emails, online newspapers, blogs, chat and
the other services offered by the internet?
The following are the important uses and benefits of a
computer network.
File sharing: Networking of computers helps the
network users to share data files.
Hardware sharing: Users can share devices such as
printers, scanners, CD-ROM drives, hard drives etc.
Without computer networks, device sharing is not
possible.
 Application sharing: Applications can be shared over
the network, and this allows to implement client/server
applications
User communication: Networks allow users to
communicate using e-mail, newsgroups, and video
conferencing etc.
 Network gaming: A lot of network games are available,
which allow multi-users to play from different locations.
Voice over IP (VoIP): Voice over Internet Protocol (IP) is
a revolutionary change in telecommunication which
allows to send telephone calls (voice data) using standard
Internet Protocol (IP) rather than by traditional PSTN.
Hardware Components used in
NETWORKING:
 Router
Switch
LAN cables (cat 5 or cat 6):
cross cable
Straight cable
Console or Roll over cable
Crimping tool
Pc or Laptop
SIMULATOR- Cisco Packet Tracer
Packet Tracer is a cross-platform visual simulation tool
designed by Cisco Systems that allows users to
create network topologies and imitate
modern computer networks. The software allows users
to simulate the configuration of Cisco routers and
switches using a simulated command line interface.
Packet Tracer makes use of a drag and drop user
interface, allowing users to add and remove simulated
network devices as they see fit.
PROJECT NAME :
ENTERPRISES CONNECTIVITY WITH SHARING INTERNET
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project is based on the concepts of Security &
Sharing Different Location internet. It includes configuring
different network devices like Router, Switch, Bridge &
connecting it with Hubs & PCs by using different types of
connecting wires by allocating the IP Addresses to all the
interfaces after the sub netting of network id. The beauty of
configuring network Security devices is that it helps users
access the network with few constraints like allowing some
to access the website but not allowing them to access the
mail server on the internet on private IP address which are
otherwise excluded by internet service provider (ISP).
DESIGN OF SOLUTION
In my project ACL, NAT & Frame relay in a network,
Project uses network address translation to make more
different IP addresses from one private IP to make a local
area network. The project includes:
IP addressing
Subnetting
Dynamic Routing
Routing protocols: EIGRP & OSPF
Virtual LAN
Inter Virtual LAN Routing
Access Control List(ACL)
Network Address Translation (NAT)
Wide Area Networks Technologies
Frame-Relay for Sharing bandwidth
FUTURE SCOPE OF PROJECT:
The scope of this project in future for sharing
internet and save money on internet, in this technique
we can use internet on sharing basics. Security is
actually about building long-term relationships and a
good reputation over time.
Security is much more difficult in network; this
project can control the user of network and make a
secure network. In this project, we replace a router with
a pc. In this project ACL will be used which provide us
the service to deny any service from the network.
